Sporting Too Classy For Bolton!

BOLTON have loved every minute of their European adventure this season, but they could be left to concentrate on their poor Premier League form after their Uefa Cup last-16 first-leg tie against Sporting Lisbon this evening.

Reduced ticket pricesand lack of television coverage means there will be a big crowd at the Reebok Stadium willing Wanderers on to victory, although they look too short at 7-5.

Sporting are light up front with injured pair Derlei and Liedson sitting on the sidelines, but they have a young and talented squad and odds of 2-1 about an away success are worth snapping up.

The Portuguese side went out of the Champions League after finishing an unfortunate third to Manchester United and Roma. They acquitted themselves extremely well against the European giants and a number of their young squad are destined for fantastic careers.

Midfield duo Miguel Veloso and Joao Moutinho are absolute gems and they can carry the fight to a Bolton team who are high on energy and effort, but low on technical ability.

Fair report that...didn't they predict similar against Atletico?

Can't remember, but they did tip us to qualify ahead of the 2nd leg in Madrid.

If Moutinho is out, their tipping is out of the window, as is my bet

Spot on that.

Is there some suggestion he will be?

For me, this should be an easier tie than we faced in the last round.

Sporting are struggling to make an impression in a poor league dominated by a Porto side that was unable to account for an average-at-best Schalke side in the Champions League.

They'll be neat and tidy, I'm sure, but I don't see them as daunting opposition.

Cue 6-0 aggregate defeat.

I read somewhere Moutinho had been taken ill at the hotel, and with no Liedson, they would be very understrength.

They are 4th in a 3 team league, although they play Guimaraes, who are in 3rd, on Sunday. They dicked Porto at home last month 2-0 but have been poor and recently lost away to Belenenses and Setubal, both small clubs in the Lisbon area.

It must be a poor league if Guimaraes are 3rd. Weren't they relegated a couple of season's ago?!

Sporting too classy for Bolton! As were Bayern Munich, Red Star Belgrade, Atletico Madrid...................

1-0 home win tonight or a 0-0 draw and I really fancy us to progress.

Are Setubal not above them as well?

Fifth in a three team league (and that's stretching it) is even worse.

And it's not even a good three team league!

Indeedy, missed that. Now Setubal are shit.

I suspect he's implying that Morris Green is a mucky landfill site where a 2 up 2 down can be bought for the price of a steak slice.
