watched a programme and it was about catalytic convertors in car engines

 

it is quite an invention this, it contains pure platinum which, when toxic exhaust gases come into contact with it, the platinum some how magically converts the gases to harmless water/oxygen/co2

 

this got me thinking, why on earth are we getting nailed so f?cking heavy on vehicle taxes if the emissions are harmless to the enviroment due to these convertors
