Taxes (again)

watched a programme and it was about catalytic convertors in car engines

it is quite an invention this, it contains pure platinum which, when toxic exhaust gases come into contact with it, the platinum some how magically converts the gases to harmless water/oxygen/co2

this got me thinking, why on earth are we getting nailed so f?cking heavy on vehicle taxes if the emissions are harmless to the enviroment due to these convertors

discuss you lefty w?nkers

As oppsed to say HSBC profit for 2006 of 11.7bn , for doing what... no need to go look for oil, build rigs to get the oil out, build pipe lines to get the oil to a refiney which they have to build to process the crude.

Also if people think that petrol is expensive work out what a gallon of beer costs or a gallon of bottled water costs.

Aii but petrol cant get you p?ssed, can it?

Traf, you moan about all this tax. How much have the government saved you by scrapping Betting tax? :p   :spiteful:

Your better off mate, Even though your fuel bills must be massive!!

they have dropped the basic rate from 22 to 20, i checked on the tax calculator and i'll be better off!

A gallon of any beer at the 'Real Ale' Festival at Wetherspoons that ended last week was ?11.12

A gallon of John Smiths at Yates's is currently ?10.32

The basic rate of tax has been cut to 20% but the 10p rate been removed. Therefore anyone earning over 18k is actually better off. Even those below 18k will be suplemented with tax credits if they have kids etc.

Therefore the people affected would be minimal of all the UK tax payers, and then only by a maximum of ?270!!!. What is all the fuss about? Its about time the people who who pay to keep this country on its feet actually got summat back from the government for a change, but still people moan??

The increases in fuel, energy and food costs have hit everyone for fsar more than ?270 but these so called 'rebel' MPs whinging about the 10p issue have done feck all to alleviate these other pressures that would benefit everyone!!

Simple answer - vote someone else and get the greedy f?ckers out.

I hope Labour members, supporters and voters die of aids

Yep - government and councils are all a bunch of money-hungry stains who do f?ck all to benefit any of us.

Glad we agree on something anyway :good:

Chaps I'm going to tell you something - it might come as a bit of a shock so brace yourself.

We aren't the only country that pays tax.

Carry on.

who empties bins, sweeps streets, maintains roads, libraries museums, schools, social services etc etc.

there is a hell of a lot of none jobs at the council though which could save the country a fortune if got rid of or even make a difference if it was reinvested in the other useful departments

Agreed, Mrs CWP used to work in the local council in Stevenage, she said they would scratch around for work, as there were so many people in the office, that they almost used to fight over the work. She left after six months, as she said it was so dull. She beleived they could have employed half the amount of people, and still got all the work done comfortably, within a normal 37 hour week. She also said that it was incredible how may of them took the p?ss with regards to being signed off sick/stressed/vegetarian/depressed etc

the other side of the coin is there's areas of the council so short staffed but with no budget to bring people in to do the real jobs because of those being paid to go to meetings and then have meetings about those meetings and getting feck all work actually done.

In Bolton:

people who empty the bins - lazy good-for-nothing jobworths.

Street sweepers - christ they cost a lot and Bolton Council employ loads of them!

Maintaining roads - are you having a fcuking giraffe? Have you driven round Bolton recently? It's like being on a rollercoaster. Thank the Lord for suspension. The recent roadworks in Bolton have, on the whole, made things worse =D>

Libraries and museums - hardly changed a bit since I was a lad, pratically zero investment.

Schools - christ, they certainly aren't educating the youth of today, which is their primary role. Perhaps the teachers could think that one over tomorrow when they are striking over a pay settlement that most people in the real world would be ectatic over.

Social Services - now you are having a fcuking laugh, the biggest pile of incompetant parasitic shithouses in the country after politicians.

People who work for the council - get a grip you workshy jobsworths.

Could take issue with much of that, except that much of it is true!

As for street sweepers though, answer is simple; if folk didn't chuck so much sh1te around, there'd be no need for so many

Save a fortune and make the long term unemployed, persistant criminals, juvenile delinquents, and junkies clean the streets, empty the bins, and cut the grass for their dole.

'No clean street, no methadone'. Its catchy, and its a vote winner. Saatchi and Saatchi, I've shat em.

If they don't turn up, shoot em, bury em in a mass grave like they dig with them wonky cows a few years back.

Sorted.

Hold on...what about the ?300k + they spent on that ancient artefact made by that old giffer in his potting shed up bromley cross?snigger..

When we were in Munich, I went to the BMW HQ near the Olympic Stadium and they've got cars there that will run on water.

This may come as a suprise to you, but they're called boats.

Cheers for that. I'd forgotten what they were called.

The latest one today is the true level of inflation.

The offiical figures don't include mortgages etc, otherwise you'd be looking at an inflation figure of 9%.

Food has risen by 15% in the last year too, according to a survey today.

I'd like to see what the inflation figures are for non-essential items.

In very simple terms, high spending = high prices = high inflation.

So, they like to keep interest rates in tandem with inflation so we don't overspend. Its common sense. I know there are lots of fancy economic protocols that go alongside it, but essentially, the theory is the same.

Now then, when I was running the Danish economy during the 70's, I rang my mate who runs Ikea and asked him how much folk were spending.

Nowt, he said. I can't give this laminated chipboard away nomatter how cheap I make my hotdogs.

But inlation remains high, I said.

Thats because food and fuel costs are soaring, was his reply.

So I asked my mate who makes them Nokia phones the same and he said that non-essential spending had dropped significantly, but interest rates were staying high because the banks were struggling and wanted a good year or so raping us.

Clever bloke he was. Works in Staks now on the paint isle.

Anyway, this is wrong said I as sat in my sauna with 2 sexy Danish lasses eating bacon.

So I then rang Mr Opec, and as I was listening to Joe Dalce's 'Shaddap You Face' on the phone, quickly worked out how much extra tax I was getting in fuel duty whilst oil and fuel prices were high, and quickly put the phone down.

I kept the basic rate of tax down to 20p and 6 months before the next election the interest rates came down, Mr Opec was also eating bacon in my sauna and firing out cheap oil like never before, and we pipped the Nazi party to another term in office.
