Your client obviously knows nowt about champagne and was sucked in by the packaging but it was a nice gesture all the same. If you don't like it, I can take it off your hands and drink it if I must.
June 16, 200818 yr It's shite mate. Bring it on Wednesday I'll use it as weedkiller in my garden. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's shite, it's acceptable. If you don't drink it within about 6 months though, it'll only be fit for pouring on your chips

They're all good. Some people are just wine snobs.

Usually the 3 bottles for ?10 deals are for stuff that isn't all that great. Having said that Asda have been doing some great deals of late at "3 for ?10" - especially as the indiviual bottle prices can be around ?6~?8 each - bargaintastic

It's true, a ?10 bottle of red/white isn't any better than a ?20 one in the main and even vintage champagne isn't so much better than the bog standard champagne from the same vinyard compared to the difference in price. As I said before, it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, and I actually enjoy the taste of some champagnes. Personally, I don't like Moet, but some do. No, I'm not a snob (well, maybe a little), I just like it and frankly, each to their own.

June 17, 200818 yr I would say 90% of normal people (and about 20% off here) will be able to tell the differance between ?20 and ?5 wine. The trouble is when most people pay ?20 for a bottle they do so in a restaurant when with the geneorrus mark up they will probably be drinking ?5 wine.

Spend ?12 on a Chateauneuf du Pape or a Sancerre in a supermarket and you will soon spot the difference between that and a ?5 bottle.

I'm not a red wine drinker BUT I can be easily persuaded to have glass or two of Chateauneuf du Pape. Infact I have a bottle at home which could do with being opened.
June 17, 200818 yr It is the only red wine I can just about drink, or should I say that doesn't give me chronic heartburn. Tis Doris' favorite, when I permit her to spend such an amount of course. She got really giddy a few years ago when we were in France and saw about 6 different varieties of the stuff ranging from thre'pence a gallon 2 stroke, to about 50 euros premium unleaded. I'm a Blue Nun man myself. With Stella.
