Respect

We will see how long Nolan lasts with this new 'Respect' ruling! He moaned at the ref for everything last season!

What new Respect Ruling?

Officials should earn respect, just like the players. Getting basic decisions wrong all the time doesn't help.

what bull shit, everyone makes mistakes.

refs in the premier league have worked their way through a pyramid system in the same way the players have, they are the best of the best in their own field.

refs in other sports make as many mistakes as in football but the players do not berate the officials in the same way.

Players misplace passes, ref's make mistakes, goalkeepers let the ball through their legs.

Shit happens

funny how the mistakes mostly benefits the big 4.

like some one posted respect has to be earned

I don't agree in this case. I, personally can't stand referees. They're the kid no one wanted to play with or pick for their team BUT by wearing the black strip on the pitch means they have been put in a position where respect should really be a given. It does not give the overpaid primadonnas the right to physically abuse him and in some cases menace. There's some big lads play football these days and having half a dozen come at you if you've made an incorrect or unpopular decision is not really acceptable.

If they have serious issues wth a ref then it is the club's place to pursue it not, the players.

exactly by being given the whistle and black shirt by the FA then they've then earned that respect.

I once read Len Shackletons autobiography. He said he spent one match, every time the ref made a mistake running past him and saying 'Terrible decision'.

When he missed a shot later in the game, ref ran past him and said 'Terrible shot'

If that happened to any of the precious Chelsea ref mitherers, they would be up in arms, as they were when Graham Poll told John Terry to **** off.

Respect doesn't have to come into it.

There are laws about dissent and foul and abusive language.

If the referees applied them to everyone rather that just the players they didn't like/know very well/fancy bumming, there wouldn't be a problem.

True, they'd get binloads stick for reducing games to 8-a-side affairs, but it wouldn't take long for even the numbest players to get the gist of it and keep their overpaid gobs shut.

wait till the season starts and see how many mistakes benefit the big 4,

wait and see howow the big 4 get away without showing respect, cant wait for the season to start now .

perhaps we should start a a thread were we can highlight their mistakes ,and see who it benefits,

like riley and the number of penalties given to the scum .

I've come to an age when I know it happens and so couldn't give a shiny as long as it's not against us.

but we can name the refs who come to the reebok ,who give decisions against us and a couple of minutes later let the same incident go if its fr the other team,

how are refs meant to earn respect when no one (managers, pundits, fans) can ever agree on whether certain decisions or correct or not anyway

they go with what they think is correct at the time

ashley cole, last season, even if that ref had an impeccable record of getting every decision right ever, he'd have still acted the c?nt

and if the ref sends him off

chelsea manager still has a pop at the ref

and if he doesn't

opposition manager still has a pop at the ref

you've got to give as well as earn respect, and half of them tw?ts (players) on the pitch wouldn't know where to start

In any game this season there will only be one man on the pitch who doens't care who wins or loses. Ref's have an amazingly tough job, not helped by the amount of replays and slo-mo's shown today. They have a split second and whatever decision they give, 11 players, 10 staff on one of the benches and thousands of people are baying for blood.

They now earn a good living, but nothing in comparison to the players, and they, in my humble opinion, have a much tougher job. If Elmander misses a sitter but scores a winner, it's "well played, crackin finish, shame bout the other". If a referee gets 95% decisions right in a game, he'll still get slated for the ones he INNOCENTLY got wrong.

I truly hope a ref has the balls to book any player for decent and send them off if they carry on, and if that means a game gets abandoned when a team has 4 (or 5?) sent off then tough. Footballers are meant to be professionals - that, like in any other profession, means sometimes you bite your tongue.

What tosh.

Ok some decisions are difficult but time and time again the tv replays show the ref to have had a perfect view of an incident from a few yards away and still do not give the right decision. So they can't have it both ways they are either incompetent or corrupt!!

And as for the players making mistakes, well that is competitive sport, it requires a degree of skill otherwise we all would do it!! Comparing that to the referee is childish as the referee isn't there to be skillfull or creative just make a judgement against a set of pre-defined rules, and they can't even do that very well!!!. As an anology it would be like comparing a racing driver to a traffic policeman, there is no comparison and it is a very weak argument.

The only way is to have video replays, let the idiots worry about throwings etc and take the match defining decisons away from them. I do not give a flying f"ck if thee games don't finish till 5.15 as long as the right result has been reached as there is nothing worse than the match to have been decided by incompetent refereeing.

aye those things in slow motion we can see over and over again the ref gets one look at full speed and also has to keep his eye on teh other 20 players not involved in the incident.

it's sport it happens get used to it

T'other day in the cricket a bloke was given not out off the TV replays as the replay looked like the ball had bounced before being caught. After Sky had got there super dooper hi-motion replays on the job it was clear it had carried.

I've seen Rugby League decisions go to the telly ref and come back wrong so it's to fool proof

think the unwritten rule is 'if the player wears a white shirt, he must be booked for dissent.

agree, apply the rule that is already there, fairly and for all, the problem will start to go away.

to be fair, in recent years Nolan and Diouf have made it very easy for that rule to be applied

As an anology it would be like comparing a racing driver to a traffic policeman

No, it would be like comparing a race driver to a race ref/official. Or a citizen to a judge. They are human they make mistakes. Players are human, they make mistakes.

Well congrats, you'll be the only one in the stadium, because that would kill football. Football is what it is because it is fast, it is non-stop. As someone said, tv-refs in cricket and rugby still make mistakes, who do you blame then? Have a 2nd tv ref just incase? Meanwhile any flow/pressure in the match is gone.

One decision doesn't win/lose a 90 minute game of football. Sometimes the best team on the day doesn't win, that is just sport.

agreed

but you do see others at the same level as Nolan and Spitter who get away with it regularly.

consistant approach is required

Had Mike tw@tting Riley had the spine to send off Cashley Cole, don't think this campaign would be going.

ehd swears as he walks away and is sent off.

rooney gets right in the refs face and it is all smiles.

nolan got sent off at jackburn after the second penalty the other year, god knows what he said because before the penelty he was effing and jeffign at the ref like it was going out of fashion.

Read my post again, not the replay of the incident, but the one that shows the position of the referee to the incident, on many occasions with a perfect unobstructed view from a few yards away they still balls it up. And as for being at full speed, what speed do you want it to be at for them to make a decision, thats there job, at full speed!!!

As an example yesterday Heridersson rugby tackled Tevez, the ref was looking directly at it and waved play on, now if they cant get blatant decisions like that correct there is no hope and they need to asked to explain ther decisions!

And while i am in rant mode, even when they do cock it up they they show there true colours by trying to squirm out of it by some dodgy interpretation of the rules, i.e. the Gerrard penalty against Sheff U a couple of seasons ago, and Riley after the penalty in Coca Cola Cup final.

If you can't tell I think 90% of them are cretins!!

Glad I have got that of my chest, hehe

if you get rid of the 90% you clainm are cretins who comes in instead ?

the fact is that these are the top refs in the country, you either accept they are doing their best but will make mistakes, some times in your favour sometimes against you.

or

you can stamp your feet and argue with every single desicion that goes against you even if it is clearly right.

the debate is should players respect officials ? if a grand prix driver ignores a flag what happens ?

getting rid of the rule that a fee kick could be moved forward if t you argued was the most stupid desicion ever.

the fact is that these are the top refs in the country, you either accept they are doing their best but will make mistakes, some times in your favour sometimes against you.

Obviously i dont agree with this at all, if this some go for you some against you debate how come there is a table produced at that shows the teams who have gained/lost due to referees dodgy dedisions.

Now some decisions are awkward and debatable, agreed, but some of the decisions made by the referees are so obviously wrong that it would be tantamount to you or I seeing a red light and driving through it. An obvious decision needed to be made and they fail to take the appropriate action time and time again, and I personally believe there is more going on in the mind of the ref that means he does not look at incidents objectively in isolation, and that leads to accusations that they are not fair.
