The reason I knocked Sammy Lee was that anyone could see a midfield consisting of Nolan, Speed, Alonso and/or McCann clearly didn't have the legs for the Premier League.

 

I can't for the life of me see anything in Joey O'Brien, Megson's opinion of him seems to be based on when he was on loan at Sheff Weds. A midfield with him, McCann and Nolan is every bit as bad a Sammy Lee's. It cost him his job.

 

The strength in depth is utterly fcuking laughable, especially when we've spent a decent amount of money recently. Those who revel in knocking Megson will be fcuking loving it.

What I don't get is why Megson buys Riga and loans Smlarek if he's not really planning on playing them. Fair enough Smolarek hasn't played yet, but Riga has and he played well, so why isn't Riga playing instead of McCann or O'Brien?

But they have the opportunity to appoint a decent manager (easier said than done, I admit) whereas we are stuck with a guy who in terms of tatics and team selection is utterly clueless.

 

It's a shame as in the other aspects of the job he seems good. Perhaps he should take a job as Director of Football.

2 games - WBA & Fulham and we will likely have 1 point to show for it, where if we do not want a relegation fight again we should have 4 points, at the very least 3.

I was very critical of Megson when he was appointed but decided to give the guy a chance. He kept us up against the odds BUT we are now seeing the ultra defensive style that attracted so much criticism at his previous clubs. Whilst I can understand trying 4-5-1 it is not possible for the 1 to create his own chances and he needs creativity around him. The team was not balanced from the start and when we are 2-0 down we persist with this formation for 25 mins before making 1 change then waste another 20 mins before making the second one. These tactics are completely at odds with what we need and even Jack Dearden was talking with disbelief at Megsons lack of reaction.........I'm getting worried, Arse and Manure to come. We are not just losing but being comprehensively outplayed!!!!!
