When we appointed Rioch it was a brilliant piece of forward thinking, the Megson appointment was backward thinking he was and never will take us forward, we should have gave him a short term contract with a whopping bonus to keep us up, then when that was achieved, we should have moved him on, and approached a forward thinking young manager with a decent track record, ie Michael Laudrup, we are now stuck with a manager who picks mcann/nolan and o'brien in the same team week in week out.

The point is I dont think anyone particularly likes Megson, least of all his style of play. What alternatives are available to progress the club forward? This isnt Allardyce's era, at the time he was in charge Newcastle, Villa, City etc were clueless and we could always have a fiar crack at beating them. Now half the Prem is owned by people with hundreds of millions (even Wigan) and our owner hasnt exactly been backwards in supporting the club financially. No matter what Megson does the fans will never get behind him, the frustrating thing is like someone else pointed out, things will have to get a whole lot worse for Gartiside to see this, even relegation wont see the back of him me thinks. I think Gartside did a master stroke in bringing him in, a manager who will get you through a difficult time and he did well to keeep us up. Now the club needs to move forwards and whichever way you look at it, were going backwards but we have been for the past 3 years.

The last 2 years of Allardyce we were becoming very predictable, he probably had burnt himself out with the constant round of media self gratification and battling for more money from the board, so I was not to dissapointed when he left, however we were well set as a club to employ a big name manager to carry us forward for a few more years, the 2 subsequent appointments have been flawed and show a major lack of ambition.

Win a few games and it will be Megson for England, but that does not hide the fact we have hit a wall and look like a club that has/will not progress for quite some time.

To win games of football the idea is to impose yourself on the opposition[ fulham did that on saturday] . in the 2 away games to date we have just turned up and hoped to defend for a draw, just look at the midfield megson put out on sat. it aint good enough get rid now.

Easy to blame him, but from those 4 games, I'd only attribute 2 of them to being negative.

I think that needs to be tempered by considering who we are unable to field. Have always believed Megson to be a particularly unambitious and negative appointment but been prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. That benefit will expire 12 games in.

 

Before anyone asks who I would replace him with, the truth is, I don't know. I'd probably give Curbishley a go (if he'd come up north). Wasn't that long ago he was in the running for the England job.

The way football is going with billionaire owners and such, I can't see any manager making that much difference to take us beyond bottom 6-8 - so would we be sacking a manager every season?

 

Bolton are a championship club with championship crowds - our best ever season we avgd 25,000. This is as good as it will get for us unless someone in Bolton becomes a billionaire.

Sorry, Traf. The problem isn't waiting for Muamba to mature a little, or waiting for Elmander to return & fit in, or waiting for Riga to get some Prem experience. That we could all live with for a month or two.

The problem is McCann, JOB and even Nolan walking into the team every week and having little if anyhting to put in their place. Oh, and having Shittu as back up. That's not down to playing a bogey team or lack of Prem experience.
