Almost Nailed On Defeats In The Next Three Games....

will put is at the foot of the table.....

with a start almost as poor as Lee's...

we have played teams that have just been promoted, a team that survived by the skin of their teeth and a club in turmoil just beaten by another newly promoted team....

Our team that two years ago was well talked about and had the opportunity to make that last final push didn't...has now stumbled and tripped and fallen flat on it's face... the board emabarrased by it's lack of investment and support for arguably it's most succesful manager...made a knee jerk reaction to a man who was trying to change the way we played...and appointed a proven failure at all levels as his succesor a man who was only months earlier working for free, just trying to grab with his finger tips his last chance saloon...and comments from the chairman of those that understand football will understand this appointment only added to the disbelief of many fans...

A style of football that lacks creativity and pace in a league that is improving massively in those two areas, will surely see our beloved club relegated from the top flight of English football, that i am sure of....

Megson as widely predicted by many that had experienced his management style isn't cut out to manage at this level, a demotivator and a style of play that is to slow for the modern game will see us embarrased...

Survival last year was down to the grit, spirit and determination of the team not the manager....this year i don't think we will be so lucky

What the answer is I don't know, but we had a massive opportunity and have blown it...

what about a 4-4-2

Al habsi

steinson cahill obrien gardner

riga muamba nolan taylor or smolarek

davies elmander

or if we went 4-3-3

steinson cahill obrien gardner

muamba nolan taylor

riga elmander smolarek/davies

both systems give plenty of pace/legs all over the team, surely better than persevering with this 4-5-1- including mcann and o'feckin brien.

can we wait til 2 of smolarek, riga and elmander are actually available?

the bloke has signed these players

its my guess that he intends playing some of em

I think he was just comparing formations nothing to do with personnel, its doesnt matter if you play 5 cart horses in midfeild (like we do) or you have 5 world beaters its still the same formation.

It's got everything to do with personnel, I don't like talking formations as it's generally nonsense but with our 5 it is a 4-5---1. Other teams that people will claim are using the same "formation" will have attacking midfielders, wingers, second striker linking play etc. These may be 4-5-1 on paper but in reality they aren't most of the time.

No team in the world has 5 World class statues. Stick just one player with blistering pace out wide or one with a footballing brain pushed on and it may work, we have neither.

If not a 4-5------------------------------1

I do agree formations are just a general idea on paper of who is playing where and our 4-5-1 is very different from most because it doesnt work for a start. On paper most teams have the same/similar formation but some teams have players with more to their game like pace and skill which makes a world of difference. Until we stop playing 3 DM we will struggle against anyone imo

We are in full agreement then.

Against Stoke and 15mins into the newcastle match we played 4-2-3-1 with JOB sitting back with Muamba allowing Nolan to push up similar to the way liverpool play.

since elmander and taylor got crippled we've seemed reluctant to play the same way.

I'll take you on again, I have no idea what formations are played across Europe as I don't watch them.

However, if these 75% that you claim are playing this mystical 4-5-1, how many play with 5 defensive and unmobile midfielders? You are comparing apples and oranges.

if you dont watch other leagues, how do have the slightest idea what i'm comparing???

So you watch games from Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Latvia, Andorra, San Marino, Austria, Slovakia, Norway et al then? Do you bollocks.

So, I'm safe to assume you'd be happy with:

Jussi or Al Habsi

Steinsson, Cahill, O'Brien, Gardner

Nolan, Muamba, Taylor

Davies, Elmander, Smolarek

On paper that team looks good.(not that i have seen much of Smolarek or Elmander come to think of it but still would like to see that as our line up)

what about a 4-4-2

You've saved me typing in what I think will almost certainly be our potentially strongest line-ups Mounts. But I can't see Meggers playing 4-3-3 anywhere and think we'll only see 4-4-2 at home and then probably not against the better teams. Apart from the attacking formations you suggest I also can't see him playing all those players at the same time, I think we'll always have at least two out of Jo'B, McCann or Samuel unless injuries force Megsons hand. I've just talked myself into a bout of depression.
