Right, obviously I've never seen the bloke play but was he THAT good? Really?

 

I've seen some amazing players and some even more amazing performances, Tony Yeboah at Leeds and Jurgen Klinsman at Spurs (neither against Bolton), Beckham for England v Greece, JJ at Spurs for example.

 

But if you take some Robbie Fowler or Michael Owen performances when they were youngster for example, you'd think they'd go on to be great players. Even Shearer didn't achieve that much despite being a consistently great player.

 

So, was Duncan Edwards as outstanding as C Ronaldo, making his contemporaries look like schoolboys?

The guy was unique in every way , when he was on form especially is 1st season , i was still @ school and Jay Jay was the talk of the school even the town , he was the most entertaining player we have ever had imo , he;s the most watched Bolton player on Youtube and i don;t know if you remember but all the pundits kept saying ( like des Lynam on the premiership on itv ) Okocha should be playing for Real Madrid or Chelsea he's that good , Is goals against Aston Villa and West ham still give me goosebumps when i see them .

 

Me and my mates on premierfives would spend ages trying to master is signature trick , when i watched him play i got exicted and he made me laugh he was that good , if he was around now and played a season like his 1st and was english he would be sold at end of season for like 80 million . Shame Big Sam didnt tell ys he wasnt gettign a new contract so we could give him a farewell he deserved after that Brum game , i thought when he came back from African Nations and got a new haircut ( afro ) he started picking up his form again . The Spurs away game will forever live in my memory as will the Carling Cup semi final .

 

 

 

Djorkaeff was also an amazing player . Man how bad our midfield has fallen .

Yes he was a colossus in midfield and tackled hard. He also had skill and the ability to beat a man. A complete all round player who was only 21/22 when he died. If his talent had developed as expected he would have been one of the truly greats. However it's all down to opinions really and he was Denis Stevens cousin.

 

My late and great old man reckoned that Tom Finney was the best player he ever saw, but thought that Duncan Edwards would have become a truly great player had he lived. he hated Utd (and Preston, obviously), but knew a good 'un when he saw one.

Youri for me. much more effective than JJ.

Djorkaeff for me by a gnats hair over Jay Jay. I have personal favourites (Johnny Byrom; Super John etc.) but I never thought I would see players of the calibre of Youri and Okocha playing in that famous shirt. It really was a golden era for us tha knows.

I wouldn't have put Gowling in the same class of BWFC legends as worthy, Big sam, Youri le God, Jay Jay and others. In fact, from what I remember of him he came to us way past his use by date and had an occasional tendancy to play like a dray horse.

Oh, I agree that as a local radio pundit he's fairly one sided in our favour, but so are most, it's the beauty of local radio.
