I don't want to be rude Jolly-olly but you don't have a say in how Bolton play, who the manager is, or what division we play in - non of us do!

 

That is down to Eddie Davies who owns the club lock, stock and barrel! He simply wants to protect his investment and that means staying in the Premiership no matter what.

 

The only choice you / we have is whether or not to turn up at the Reebok 19 or so times a season.

 

If you don't want to go fine - there will be plenty others who won't go either BUT the 5,000 or 8,000 or whatever the number the average crowd will drop by next season would equate to lets say 6,500 people not paying say ?50 per visit (to the club) for say 20 home games - in other words = ?6.5 million - which is nothing compared to approximately ?35 million (?45 million Premiership less ?10 Championship Sky money) the club would lose if it was to get relegated!

 

Now I'm not a gambling man so maybe I might get this next bit wrong but would you risk losing ?35 million pounds in order to keep ?6.5 million? I certainly wouldn't!

 

The loss of ?6.5 million will hurt the club - no doubt about that - but relegation and the loss of ?35 million will cripple the club - do you think we would still get gates of 20,000 playing in the third division like 5 recent Premiership clubs have / will be playing recently? I don't. And if we do find ourselves down there our two-year parachute payments from Sky will not last long and our Sky money would have dropped from ?45 million to about ?250,000 - a staggering loss to a club with already a ?53.5 million debt.

 

Southampton have recently gone into Administration and their financial situation does not seem to be as bad as ours - the only difference being is that we are getting ?45 million in Sky money and them (without the parachute) just ?1 million - ?44 million less than us!

 

There is no way on God's green earth that Bolton will risk its Premiership status - so leave if you must, or stay and endure like I do - but please, please, please stop moaning about the football and the manager ? because neither are going to change unless Eddie is prepaired to gamble with his personal fortune!

Please accept my apologies for my rants and anyone I may have upset recently. I do love the club as much as anyone else. No doubt I will renew my season ticket as I always say I won't every year at certain points if I am angry hee hee. After all what else will I do on a Saturday afternoon apart from being dragged around the shops with my Mrs.

I suppose it shows how great football is when it creates such diverse opinions and arguments. And people say it is just a game. It is more than that as we all know.

Think I will leave it there for now folks.

Couple of things I've been wondering about of late since the figure for debt has recently been put at ?53.5 million.

 

In 1997 it was ?25 million when the club moved to the Reebok. Later this was increased by ?8 million due to the building of the hotel. So that gave a debt around ?33 million which is were I thought it stood in 2001 when the club entered the land of milk and honey.

 

Ever since the club entered the Premier league Phil Gartside has stated in various articles and interviews that the club would not take on further debt for transfers and that contracts were sorted to drastically reduce the wage bill if the club were relegated.

 

So the obvious questions are:

 

1. Were did the increase of ?20 million debt come from?

2. Why would we go bankrupt if relegated if the contract provisions are in place and the club is being prudently run?

The debt virtually stood still in the range of ?30M to ?35M for most of the time that Big Sam was at the club.

 

The ironic thing is, that part of the episode that led to Big Sam leaving was the lack of financial backing in the January transfer window when we started the month in 3rd place in The Premiership. OK I know there was many other factors but this was a part.

 

Since Sam left the club and along with him, the end of big name foreign stars on high wages, the debt at the club has taken two large jumps upwards - moving through the ?40 millions very quickly to the present position of ?53.5 million.

 

 

This though as Sluffy has mentioned, is the cost of retaining our Premiership status BUT I am worried that at a time when we have the smallest squad in The Premiership and no "star" players on massive wages (compared to the rest) our debt seems to have jumped massivley in the last two financial years

I read somewhere that someone is lending Brighton ?80m to complete their stadium as it's cost has risen over ?90m. Are they even a league club? ?53m is chicken feed (Indian corn).
