It also appears that when profits fall and difficult decisions need to be taken, Willie's your man.

Believe me, I have been there - working 72 hours straight to get a critical job out; sleepless nights worrying about the companies predicament and all those employees who rely on us getting it right to give them the ability to look after their families etc. A stressful nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone.

 

I never begrudge anybody (Dragons; Branson, Smiffs etc) living in the lap of luxury because, for sure and certain, they have been to hell and back to get where they are and good luck to them.

 

Some 'Red Flag' singing; Jag driving Chardonnay socialist living it up in Bucks/Herts/Hants etc off the contributions of brainwashed tits really pisses me off.

 

At least the Tories can soon have a go and, no doubt, BA and others will be operating on a far more even keel.

Suicide bombers in Britain are set to begin a three-day strike on Monday in a dispute over the number of virgins they are entitled to in the afterlife. Emergency talks with Al Qaeda management have so far failed to produce an agreement.

The unrest began last Tuesday when Al Qaeda announced that the number of virgins a suicide bomber would receive after his death will be cut by 25% next January from 72 to only 60. The rationale for the cut was the increase in recent years of the number of suicide bombings and a subsequent shortage of virgins in the afterlife.

 

The suicide bombers' union, the British Organisation of Occupational Martyrs (or B.O.O.M.) responded with a statement that this was unacceptable to its members and immediately balloted for strike action. General secretary Abdullah Amir told the press, "Our members are literally working themselves to death in the cause of jihad. We don't ask for much in return but to be treated like this by management is a kick in the teeth."

 

Mr Amir accepted the limited availability of virgins but pointed out that the cutbacks were expected to be borne entirely by the workforce and not by management. "Last Christmas Abu Hamza alone was awarded an annual bonus of 25,000 virgins," complains Amir. "And you can be sure they'll all be pretty ones too. How can Al Qaeda afford that for members of the management but not 72 for the people who do the real work?"

 

Speaking from a shed somewhere in the West Midlands , where he currently resides, Al Qaeda chief executive Osama bin Laden explained,

 

"We sympathise with our workers' concerns but Al Qaeda is simply not in a position to meet their demands. They are simply not accepting the realities of modern-day jihad, in a competitive marketplace. Thanks to Western depravity, there is now a chronic shortage of virgins in the afterlife. It's a straight choice between reducing expenditure and laying people off. I don't like cutting wages but I'd hate to have to tell 3,000 of my staff that they won't be able to blow themselves up." He defended management bonuses by claiming these were necessary to attract good fanatical clerics. "How am I supposed to attract the best people if I can't compete with the private sector?" asked Mr. Bin-Laden.

 

Talks broke down this morning after management's last-ditch proposal of a virgin-sharing scheme was rejected outright after a failure to agree on orifice allocation quotas. One virgin, who refused to be named, was quoted as saying "I'll be buggered if I'm agreeing to anything like that...it's too much to swallow".

 

Unless some sort of agreement is reached over the weekend, suicide bombers will down explosives at midday on Monday. Most branches are supporting the strike. Only the North London branch, which has a different union, is likely to continue working. However, some members of that branch will only be using explosives from the waist down, in order to express solidarity with their striking brethren.

I heard something about this on the radio; aparently, in an effort to keep up the flagging company, when profits dropped due to the recession, the cabin crew took pay cuts with the promise that as and when BA got back into profit again, the pay rates would go back to normal. The management then renaged on the promise and that is part of the reason they are going to strike.

 

It is typical of a large company, ruling through fear. That isn't the way to manage; threatening to sack anyone who asks the wrong question.

 

The problem is Human Resources. They are supposed to be a buffer between the employers and employees. The problem is, being paid by the employers, they're never going to bite the hand that feeds them, therefore they will usually be siding with the managers rather than the workers.

I agree up to a point. If an entrepreneur has built a company up from scratch - good luck to them.

 

But the vast majority of large shareholders in BA won't have ever spent 72 hours working straight. Most of them will have been born into money and will have invested part of it in order to acculumulate even more.

 

It's then BA's 'job' to repay them by increasing profit margins by expanding growth and cutting costs - which in the vast majority of cases means paying their staff as little as possible, but at the same time ensuring their wage remains just above what would cause them to look for alternative employment.

 

The Unions need to be much more realistic these days. It's not like years ago in their heyday, when people were on the brink of starvation despite working impossibly long weeks in dangerous conditions. In the West, in large part thanks to the unions supported by our Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers, you can expect expect to earn at least enough to get by and a safe working place to work.

 

I still think that without the proper checks and balances of a union, most large organisations would chip away at the pay and conditions of the workforce until they were taking the piss, and without a Union, the staff would be screwed as they wouldn't be able to mobilise to do anything about it - and whilst they might get on my tits at times, I still think the Unions have an essential role to play. A necessary evil is probably the best way to sum them up for me.

 

Either way - I think this strike was so cynically timed that it was doomed to fail from the start. At the end of the day, strikes stand or fall by the support they are given by the people who have been inconvenienced by them as much as anything. Denying people the chance to see their loved ones at Christmas was a shocking idea on the part of the Union IMO.

When we're talking about investors and fat cats, has anyone thought about the hundreds of millions of pounds BA tip up to the Government in NI and Corporation Tax every year?

 

I realise this might be an alien concept to the commies who think there is a big money tree growing in Whitehall, but I'd say they were a fairly important cash cow to the Treasury, not one to be held to ransom.
