GAVIN McCann may have played his last game for Wanderers after Owen Coyle ruled him out of returning to first team action again this season.

The experienced midfielder, whose last appearance came in the 4-2 defeat against Arsenal in January, has been told he will require surgery to the ankle injury that has plagued him since the turn of the year.

And with his contract due to expire this summer, it leaves a big question mark over the 32-year-old?s future at the Reebok.

I BLOODY WELL HOPE SO

I don't want to see any player injured but McCann isn't good enough so I would hope he isn't given a new contract

I BLOODY WELL HOPE SO

what a load of bollocks. id rather you left to be honest.

against sunderland, when muamba went off we needed mccann to replace him.

though saying all that, if we can replace with a better player then fine. but that applies to every single player.

To be honest I've always considered McCann a decent squad player to keep as a backup to the first team. He's had some fair decent games for us in midfield, and admittedly some very poor ones ;)

Homer, things must be pretty bad to say that and for me to think of agreeing with you.

Even worse, it may be true for Saturday's match too.

A fit McCann is just what we needed. Remember him being superb at holding the ball and finding his own man when under pressure in Europe.

Unfortunately he has had this ankle problem for a while. We are stuck with a lightweight and inexperienced midfield for the run in.

If Muamba is out, I wonder whether Ricketts (after his suspension) ? played midfield for Hull or JLS can do a defensive midfield job.

Otherwise a bit worrying.

McCann has had his day with us.

Irrelvent of this injury, he was never going to get a new contract in the summer.

The McCann memory will be of him scoring the goal that made Bolton the first English team to win a European game in Belgrade.

that night in belgrade, i was more worried about freezing to death

mccann was top class at middlesbrough when we won 1-0...way more valuable than his goal in belgrade

drove the team forward to push us towards safety

mccann is an easy target for the generation who think midfield play is all about fancy tricks and 60 yard passes

you don't play ten years in the top division if you're shit

If McCann ,rather than Weiss, had replaced Muamba at S/land there's no way we'd have lost 0-4.

When everybody is fit we'll have Muamba, S.Davis ,Basham, Holden & even Cohen who can play in his position ,so it could be the end for him , but he's been a good player for us, & as said, his performance at Boro ,played a large part in keeping us in the premier league.

from what ive seen of holden, i dont think he's an option in defensive midfield.

I aint saying i wouldnt of bought him on for muamba. Hes not fit, and wont be for the rest of the season, therefore get shut and get better "understudys" in for muamba cos hes not good enough anymore and past his premier league sell by date

Fair enough - I thought he was supposed to be a decent tackler , but i've definitely not seen enough of him to argue about it.

mcann would be down the pecking order for me, but no way would i want to see him or any player for that matter injured so he cant be available for selection. that might be the stupidest thing i've read on here in a while

gavin mcann will be a blackpool player next season..trust me.

Just to clarify the "i bloody well hope so" statement this isnt "i bloody well hes injured", as i like the rest of you dont want to see players injured. Its a if he is out for the rest of the season "i bloody well hope so" hes played his last game as i want him to be released in the summer and replaced by better quality

Wouldnt surprise me in the slightest. Local and about his standard these days

lives in lytham, recently spent a few bob on new training facilities for spirit of youth..thats the club he played for as a kid.

have it on good authority he will be at the satsumas next year.

Once recovered and if not with Bolton he would be a good aquisition for a championship side.

As long as he's gone , who cares where !

Good Call, remember a lung bustin 80 yard run down the left wing. Thought i was seein things.

Lad been a good servant. All the best to him. :good:

gavin slated us when we knocked villa out the league cup in the semi's

not that it really matters jsl he used to support us a boy

gavin gives everything when he plays and if the ball goes past him the man dont

which is whats needed most of the time in a relagations fight
