Haye V Harrison

At least with it being an all brit fight it won't be on at daft o'clock.. I hope.. Should be a good watch

Just got my tickets :good:

Some nonsense being spouted about this fight already.

The Klitschko brothers are proving problematic to arrange a bout with - the discussions last year would have meant Haye fighting for f*ck all. He then chose to fight Valuev in the hope of winning a world title and then being in a much better position to negotiate. Job done on the title front but no luck so far with a fight with either of the Klitschkos.

I remember reading that there was some wrangling about a possible re-match with Valuev as it was written in the original contract. Not sure if this dragged on so long that both Klitschkos arranged other fights or whether all 3 of them are less keen on the fight than they like to admit to. Whatever the issue is a fight between Haye and one of the Klitschkos at least with certainly happen next year (providing none of the lose in the meantime).

Now, this fight with Harrison. At present there are very few heavyweights out there who offer a genuine payday - and let's be honest until a Haye Klitschko flight the only viable contests are ones that would generate a big payday. It's hardly the golden era of heavyweights at the moment is it. Harrison, due to his bizarre career and being British, provides a huge payday for what should be a relatively easy bout for Haye. I know that Harrison is technically accomplished but he lacks the killer instinct and can't take a punch - so much so that he turns his head away when he gets too close and at times even flinches. Amusingly he claims he's felt, and dealt with, Haye's punching power in sparring in the past. Two things, firstly it's very rare that boxers try and knock each other out in sparring and secondly the gloves are a lot more padded in sparring in an attempt to avoid injury.

In summary I think Haye sees this as a chance to earn a lot of money for an easy night's work. The added bonus of this will be to finally see Harrison give up his ridiculous claims that he will win a world title.

the cheap tickets flew then

The fight has been there to be made for ages now, before Vitali and Wlad arranged their upcoming fights. They say it's 50/50 deal, Haye says it isn't.

Regardless, both are in a better position than he is (Vitali is about 90 and going to retire and Wlad is the recognised HW Champ). If Haye really wanted the fight, to make good on the promises he made when he entered the division, he could do. Any difference in purse money he'd make back ten-fold after unifying the belts.

Haye would rather take the easy money and fight Audley. Good luck to him, I'd do the same. It just makes the stuff he continues to come out with look stupid.

It was a 50/50 offer, but Haye wanted them to extract more cash out of the German TV, the Kilitchkos wanted to go with their existing deal

as i said previously

slate him when he retires having not kept his word.

why would he want to beat the klitchkos and then retire after fighting some bum? he wants to go out at the top. He can fight Audley now, then the klitchkos and then retire.

just got tickets....

?99 plus hotel...cant complain.

Booked my tickets tonight! Never been to a live fight before should be a good one to pop my cherry!

  • 1 month later...

what time do they kick off?

i usually pay to watch the 'big fights' but not going to bother with this one.

the only reason i could be tempted is to see Audrey get a good beating (which he will)

might watch it in the pub though.

can see it being a very boring but comprehensive (every round) win for Haye.

It was a 50/50 offer, but Haye wanted them to extract more cash out of the German TV, the Kilitchkos wanted to go with their existing deal

This is exactly right

The stumbling block is that Haye brings a lot more money to the table from UK TV than they do from German TV

And the yanks (HBO) don't have a TV deal with the Klitschkos any more - too boring

So in effect Haye wants a bigger share of the pot; the rights and wrongs of that are open to interpretation

IMO Haye is doing two things; topping up his pension fund and letting the brothers age that little bit more

Harrison has a sweet left hand and decent chin but Haye should KO him in the middle rounds

looking forward to this now, couple of fairly interesting/competitive domestic matchups on the undercard...george groves also after his fight this sat was called off

haye, 8th, tko

what time do they kick off?

c'mon?

10 ish?

c'mon?
