March 23, 201115 yr Been given a rabbit, in a Wilkinsons bag. It's frozen and I think I'll cook it in the slow cooker, apparently the smell they give off is horrid though. Has anyone cooked a rabbit before? How did you do it? and how did you get rid of the smell...

March 23, 201115 yr If it's prepared,ie - it doesn't still have fur,guts, and eyeballs! Cut it into pieces and trim off most of the visible fat Slam it in the slow cooker with 4 slices off bacon cut into pieces Some sliced mushrooms An onion cut into fine pieces, or shallots A cup of white wine Half a cup of water Salt and pepper A sprinkle of mixed herbs best cooked on "low" for about 7 - 8 hours The smell will be lovely......serve with mashed spuds and crusty bread. March 23, 201115 yr Had Rabbit a few time cooked over an open fire, They had only been shot an hr before eating. Tasted nice, Then a mate of mine gave me one of it's kidney's to eat,Size of a broad bean, Nice.

Gone for this one except it was tough to cut. So I've whacked it in slow cooker for a while then I'll go back in an hour or so and take all the meat off when it's a little easier to cut.

Perhaps would have been quicker to fry the meat first, then cut into pieces and put in the slow cooker PS The golden rule with meat in slow cookers is.... always make sure there is plenty of moisture/liquid. March 23, 201115 yr Eat something else,eh? Rabbits are lovely little chaps. I've kept one for thirty years - not the same one ,mind - and never felt the need to put her in t' pot with seasonal vegetables.

March 23, 201115 yr Author I felt a bit odd messing with it, knowing what it used to look like. Anyway, I've left the house while it cooks a bit, let the rest of the dirty bastards deal with the smell.
March 23, 201115 yr I thought a wild rabbit was a called a Hare, but thinking about it, Bugs Bunny wasn't like a pet and a bunny is a small rabbit, so I guess there's a difference, I doubt the difference is that much, probably the teeth or ears.
