athywhite Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I probably favour Knight slightly, but would have accepted Wheater starting but wasn't Knight our rd best player of the season until he got injured? was he bolloxs he was and still is our worst
enzo gambaro Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 See my earlier post. KD is still doing what he was doing years ago. Unfortunately the rest of the team aren't switched on to it. I'm not having that, though. I've said before, but an apparent change in the laws of the game means he doesn't dominate defenders nearly as much as he did before. More worrying, though, is the number of times he gets caught like a rabbit in headlights when he's in possession. He's been immense, and I still think has something to offer (his cameo off the bench in the Cup at Wigan as an example), but we'll be in bother if he's first name on the teamsheet every week next season.
Traf Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I agree with Enzo. All good things come to an end eventually. Our problem is that this has to be KD's last season as a regular starter, but it's at the same time that Elmander leaves, Sturridge goes back to Chelsea, Rodrigo back to Benfica, Blake retires and Klasnic isn't ever fit enough.

TheReebokBear Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 bad job that will all go in wages Unfortunately, yeah. Though we'll save about 200k a week if all the players currently on frees leave.
HomerJay Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Do we not want to replace them? And with better players?
TheReebokBear Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Do we not want to replace them? And with better players? Not all, no. JOB and Gardner probably won't be replaced as they are surplus; but we still paid their wages. One of Ali or Jussi is likely to leave and probably won't be replaced (Bogdan is there and a Lainton will be 3rd I think). Robbie Blake's place was taken by loans, so it's hard to say whether we'll go back into the loan market and save a bit of cash (assuming we loan a youngster on low wages) or make a new signing. Alonso has screwed us a bit as we'll probably need a new player, or we could have counted Samuel as surplus too. If Elmo stays it will be on less money, if he goes I doubt his replacement will be looking at that level of wage. I'm also hoping that Ward may allow us to lose one of Petrov or Taylor and save a bundle. Cohen for (rumoured) Pratley is probably about even and Steinsson will need to be replaced. I think we have to make economies, and they are doable in terms of wages. Some of the money will have to go towards new player's wages, obviously; but I think we can trim the fat and still improve the squad. I'm also assuming that, given Cahill's new contract, his replacement will be on a lower wage than he currently is. Obviously there's a fair amount of guess work in all that but I'd be surprised if we didn't managed to either cut the wage budget by a fair whack or make better use of the funds.
MalcolmW Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Hoppy went from Bolton's fourth team to England number one in 18 months.
