If player of the year is something we should take into account we maybe should be trying to sign Wigans player of the year every year

I'm not having that, Jussi over his time here has had some absolute storming perfromance. In recent years Jussi away at Hull was easily as good a peformance, if not better. Yet the glamourous opposite that night in Germany seems to taint eveyones opinion.

 

Will give Jussi that one, however Jussi has played about 500 games as opposed to Habsis 10, and if you take the games he played for Wigan a high proportion of the games he has played he has been MOTM I also noted that he was MOTM many times for Oman, I think he is truly a gifted keeper , and better than Jussi which is no slur on Jussi, Al habsi is just a better option taking into account his age and his superior ability. The Stoke performance also showed what is round the corner for Jussi, he is declining faster than he should be.

Al Habsi was put in the shop window by going on loan to Wigan thereby letting it be known that Bolton would not be averse to selling him.

 

... or maybe Al Habsi was sent out on loan in order to get regular game time, so Coyle could assess whether he was up to the job of replacing Jussi, in the meantime it gave him chance to give Bogdan a few games if needs be, plus we received a loan fee from Wigan.

 

I'm not sure it actually proved that we weren't averse to selling him.

 

I'd be interested to see if we've turned down any ?4m bids for Jussi during the last 10 years. I mean that in all sincerity though, just to gauge how highly (or not) other teams' managers rate him.

 

We've seen the 'big' clubs sign numerous (and in most cases, inferior) 'keepers over the years, yet Jussi has remained with us. It's always surprised me. To think of some of the shit Arsenal have had between the sticks is staggering.

Maybe Jussi is a player who is prepared to honour his contract and not leave in the middle of it. I believe this to be true and not just saying it. I don't know how many games you have seen Al Habsi play but I have seen all his first team games for Bolton plus many in the reserves and believe me he used to flap at crosses in the reserves. And I've seen him just stand while a shot has whistled past him and hit the post. In all his games in the reserves Al Habsi never gave the impression that he was the man to replace Jussi.

There's no right or wrong on this discussion. Some think Jussi's the better 'keeper, some think Al Habsi is. It'd be boring if we all agreed.

 

Regarding your point on Jussi choosing to honour his contract, well, I don't suppose we'll ever know for sure - but I've never heard anywhere that any bid was ever turned down for him, meaning that we'll never know for sure whether Jussi would've gone given the chance.

 

Regardless of who we think should be our #1 going forward, there is no doubt that Jussi has been a great servant to our club and will go down as an actual legend (a word used too often nowadays - but not in this case).
