Think you need to read your reply again, the point we are making is that we need to start making teams play in their own half rather than us and by having a player who can force them back would give us more chance to ease the pressure.

My point was that even if our upfield player can't hang on to possession, he should attempt to make the opposition go as close to their own goalto get the ball. It's not an attractive tactic, but having them take a throw-in 2 yards from their own corner flag has to be better than the ball just falling to a midfielder 20yds from our goal. With them having a throw deep inside their own half, we could push out and defend on halfway.

And that's an out ball that we need but with a player who can gather the ball and then run at the opposition, if they manage to get it back then your solution works but there is a chance that we may get a corner or our own throw in or surprise surprise have an attempt on goal, we did it for years with Walker and McGinlay.

It's a tactic that is used from Sunday League football to the World Cup Finals, so just because we did it in div 3 doesn't make it irrelevant because we're now in the Premiership; it's simply the Management's preference

2 seperate issues:

 

1) Defending at corners in general. Teams that employ players to stand on the half way line do it as a defensive measure as miuch as anything else and it's very little to do with them being "a class above"; though that obviously helps.

 

As I said, it's opinion based if it's right or wrong and fuck all to do with the league we're in

 

2) On Sunday. Petrov not getting across in time was laziness and simply criminal, but if you leave a man or two up, you then man-mark in and around the box; we didn't because we had everyone back there - it's very arguable that the man on the edge would have been picked up if we'd employed that tactic....not for definite mind
