The Idiot Tax Aka The National Lottery. Have You...

I was going through my books and came across a Doors Guitar tab book, after I wiped the book clean I noticed on the inside cover, in marker pen, six numbers I recognised as myself and my then GF's old lottery numbers.

I put these on for about 3 years until I missed a draw and fucked it off for good.

I thought I'd check (using this site) if these numbers had won anything in the intervening years (late 1997 until present)...

Historical Lottery Number Checker - Scroll down and enter 'your' numbers.

There's been approximately 728 weeks passed since I stopped doing it, two draws a week = 1456 draws.

I'd have spent ?1456...

According to the Lottery-checker, I'd have won ?387 - 35 times winning ?10 and 1 solitary occasion winning ?37.

Proving (to me) conclusively that it is nowt but a hidden tax for deluded fools.

yes but is you had picked 6 12 13 28 33 38 - you would have accumulated ?1,964,197 - THATS THE GAMBLE YOU TAKE

Better off betting on the Irish lottery, get the correct odds for what you are betting on, think it's about 300/1 for 3 numbers, don't do it myself so someone might correct me.

Not the official Irish Lottery. 3 numbers only pays out 5 euro.

William Hill do several lottery bets one of which is the Irish 7 ball lotto. This pays out 300/1 for 3 correct but it has to be 3 out of 3 not any 3 from 7.

If I won around half a million (which is never going to happen as I don't do it - or put it on when pissed, and lose the ticket). Anyway if I won the jackpot and the share was so low - I wouldn't tell anyone, and I mean nobody, like Eddie Murphy in 'Coming to America'.

I wouldn't be mean, I'd share the wealth - but would keep the source a secret. What kind of f*ckwit wins untold millions (I'm thinking of that 'Euromillions' couple who won that obscene amount) then agrees to have their stupid, grinning mugs - opening Champagne and accompanied by their real names, plastered all over the tabloids?

I know of a couple who won about a million. Apparently, Camelot say either you play the game and do their publicity, and they protect you from the tabloids etc., or basically you are on your own and if the Sun decide to camp outside your house or follow you around then tough shit! Most big winners therefore choose the Camelot publicity route.

Sounds like something out of Goodfellas - "You play it our way, or your on your own...".

If it was tens of millions, I'd wait 'til the money came through then don a 'super-chav' disguise ('loadsa bling' - crap, ostentatious Versace and D+G sportswear) then I'd do loads of publicity, I'd say;

I was going to spend as much as humanly possible on heroin and crack and heroin and crack addled prostitutes.

I was about to set up a fund to promote freedom for Winston Silcott and Peter Sutcliffe.

The foundation of a Matador school in Spain, solely for disaffected British inner-city youth.

Announce plans to make Kevin Davies an offer he couldn't refuse for his donkeys - then ship them to my Salami factory in Italy.

Establish 'White-Cider' drop in centres in every major UK city, no heavy drinkers will need to copper up for a bottle of 'Frosty Jack' ever again.

And, anything else I could think up...

I'd make lotto lout Andy Mickey Carroll look like Mary Poppins - I'd make myself the most hated man in Britain, and everyone would stop doing the lottery in disgust.

Then, just like that, I'd disappear - never to be seen again

Thank fuck for that :D

Right, I'm ringing my solicitor first thing tomorrow (emotional distress) AND I'm joining Burnden Aces with immediate effect

Oh dear, would an 100k out of court settlement help? :o

AS well as the lottery, what about scratch cards?

It's like cat nip for the poor, they just can't help themselves.

How many time have you been in a paper shop and someone in pyjamas gets twenty berkley menthol then 5 scratch cards, which they proceed to "scratch" right there in the shop and then IF they win anything they buy more scratch cards?

You may as well throw your money down a grid.
