It's interesting they blame government cuts for the decline of their business.

I'm sure the Guardian article does - T Cook's actual press release points out the problem is their overseas business, not the UK.

I'm sure savage Tory cuts are keeping Russian holiday makers home.

My thoughts exactly

Travel companies, shit houses, the lot of em!

Give 'em a break

Fuck 'em! Made lots of good friends redundant.

Me and the Sra are going to Benalmadena with Tom Cook 5 Feb for a week. It'll be reet.

Do people use travel agents on here? I tend to book flights and hotels direct and seperately and sort out transfers. Usually (?) cheaper I think but seems to be easier!

I use travel agents,Thomas Cook or Althams usually, simply for the fact that if there is a problem I know where to go and who to bollock. On't interweb I never know if an email actually goes anywhere. Perhaps I'm a bit paranoid but I like knowing who I'm dealing with.

Travel agents should solely be used for old people who are too dithery to know how to book cruises in the internet.

Anybody else is either lazy or stupid.

I used Thomas cook when I went to Reykjavik simply because I could pay in installments without it costing interest.

I did my research online and went in with dates, times and where I wanted to stay etc.

The dolly bird plugged it all in her machine and it was ?3.43 dearer than If id booked it myself the night before as the flight prices were different.

Most companies, reputable ones will be ABTA registered and if you book with a credit card theres always that security in case of the odd mishap. I was looking for flights recently when i went to Tenerife, Thomas Cook had the perfect flights advertised on skyscanner, but the flight never existed or was sold out when trying to book, the flight kept re appearing.

As for old folks my 80 year old grandpops loves the internet and book is quartley jollies to Benidorm ont web, he also loves the Leythers forum :D

No worries.

I should set my own agency up.

Used to work for a firm who were taken over by Thomas Cook - safe to say they're all shitting themselves now.

Serves them right, knobs.

GM going belly up from what I hear :yahoo:

Inside info re: buying TC shares.

In all honesty they are unlikely to go and if they come through this episode they will possibly become a leaner and a more profitable business. However I can?t give you a guarantee.

3 things to leave you with

1. CAA is most likely in talks with the Government on this ? Could they cover this if TC went? I therefore imagine that DC has been involved in talks with banks on behalf of TC!!

2. I would imagine that they will shortly announce (between now and 9am Monday) that they have successfully refinanced with the banks. Beyond the markets opening up with continued uncertainty on Monday there might not be a business worth saving!

3. I would think it?s a better bet than placing ?5000.00 on Bolton winning by 2 clear goals at the weekend!!!

I go with First Choice & have always had good service. Always do Spain though, nice short flight, a beach is a beach to me.

Looked into travelling independently & there wasn't much difference in price, then there was the ash cloud etc.

Always look out for & get the free kid place too.

Fallacy, they stick the cost on the adults !!

It's not a completely free kid place agreed.

I find it about half & half.
