BOWTUN BAKED Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 What was that Jimmy & his magic boots song that we sang at Burnden about Phillips? Anyhow, Muamba..... holding midfielder. Job description.... holding player in front back four, to break up opposition attacks, defend against strikers who like to drop in the hole, generally tackle & harry etc, etc. Not job description.... shooting & Cruffesque passing. Let him stick at what he does well, if he wants to improve in other areas... fine, but stick to his job title first & foremost. Round pegs, round holes. I thank you, end of thread, move on. Quote
Guest Frandsen08 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 i like muamba i really do, i would love to know what qualities stood out to youth scouts, as it would usually be passing and shooting. Quote
BOWTUN BAKED Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Tackling. Beginning of last year, when we were playing well, weren't Holden & Muamba top of the tackling success stats? Didn't that mean we were stopping other teams playing? Didn't that mean our wingers & strikers prospered? Was Makelele asked to shoot & pass? Wasn't Muamba the holding midfielder in the most successful England U-21's of modern times? Edited December 22, 2011 by BOWTUN BAKED Quote

IMO FM is not a holding midfield player. He is all about getting up and down the pitch and helping push the opposition back not just holding in front of the back 4. NRC is similar, if we just sit and let teams play we will lose many more than we win, there is no point the front 2 closing players dwon if theyy can then knock it to midfield players who have half the pitch to walk through. Reading Coyles comments pre-season that's exactly what he wanted Fab to do & work on, especially with no Holden to do that job. He wasn't up to it, he got dropped. We are not Barcelona, with the sort of players that can interchange positions, so let's stick to round pegs in round holes. Let NRC push on, he seems to suit it better. Opposition won't walk through half the pitch because the defence has already moved up to the half way line by then & Fab would be looking at picking up their out ball from their box. That's why he didn't stay at Arsenal, but we all know they could do with one, like they had in Viera. As has been said with other players, if he could do all the things we would like him to do, he wouldn't be with us, he'd be playing at a higher level. Let the players we have play the roles they can, & play them well. Let Fab break up play & tackle/man mark your Gerrards/Lampards. Let Klasnic get in the box & score, let the Petrov's, Lee's (when fit), Eagles etc do the flair. Build a TEAM round what we've got that do their roles well. jsl. Quote

No offense intended, but that phrase is getting on my tits at the moment. Quote

Chelsea's players ended up getting Makelele to take a penalty so he could get a goalscoring opportunity. Quote
glasgowwhite Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Top man Tuesday, broke down so much play they could not get going at all. Underrated to say the least Quote
Traf Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I don't think Muamba's under-rated on here. There was a small number of us who felt he should be playing more often: his case was strengthened by some piss-poor performances without him and the majority on here are now right behind him. Quote
