There's One Born Every Minute - ?250 + For Headphones?

Another in the series of 'kids these days' threads...

The well-respected and renowned expert in acoustics (and money for old rope) Dr. Dre, who's not a real Doctor either, has launched his own range of headphones - Dr. Dre Beats.

Everyone has probably noticed young folk wearing these white monstrosities - with a red logo that looks like the vodafone one. At first I thought each to their own etc. until yesterday, when I was in a shop and noticed the price...

?100 to ?300 +

I know fools and money are easily parted but this takes the piss. Incidentally, isn't 'Dre' about 50 years old these days? Why are the 'yoof' taking their cues from an old fart like him?

Perhaps he could help with America's deficit given the ubiquitousness of his product - especially on Bolton/Piccadilly stations of a morning/evening.

i've got some bose in-ear ones for running, they are bloody good, but you cant hear a bloody thing thats cars or dogs barking at you chasing you. But thats another story!

I love my Skullcandy skull crushers the built in sub woofer is belting.

Wouldn't mind having the spare cash to get some proper expensive ones.

My mate has a pair. "Beats by Dre". The full on cup head phones.

He has more money than sense but still looks an utter bellend like the rest of them. Oh yeah, he wears Toms too. :glare:

I'm not having that people who are genuinely interested in personal audio are ignorant to brands like Sennheiser, TDK, Atomic Floyd, Bose etc. who undoubtedly have out-performing gear.

I have some skull candy in-ear headphones, do the job for me. I've tried some Bose expensive big muffler jobs and they do sound quality, and quality is remembered, long after price is forgotten.

... but I felt like a nob wearing them.

Fucking pointless listening to mp3s on them though.

depends if your MP3's are 320 kbps

I wasn't really commenting on the quality, for all I know they might sound pretty good. But, as someone else mentions, quality (and cheaper - in some cases a lot cheaper) headphones have been around for ages. Sennheisers don't have a stupid red dot on them though, nor an endorsment from an ageing hip-op 'er :blum:

And regarding sound quality, half the people wearing them seem to have them on over a beanie or some other form of headwear that's covering their ears - what's the point of that?

And finally, I think the street-robbers (muggers to you and me) of today should be ashamed of themselves. This would never have happened in my day.

i just dont think you like dr dre. you always struck me more of an East coast rap fan.

The beats headphones are made by Monster Cables are they not?

Nowt personal against Dre (we're on first name terms he and I ) in fact I gave my nephew 'Straight outta Compton' amongst birthday gifts for his 11th - his mum and dad weren't best pleased for some reason... You're right about my preference tho'.

Moving the conversation on to speakers, someone I used to work with had a set of Nautilus speakers, which came in just shy of 12 Grand.

They were very good though. Shut your eyes and you were there type of good.

I don't know why, I just had a daydream of this bloke showing someone his ?12,000 plus set-up - then pulling out a

'Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers' CD and putting it on with great reverence...."Listen to this...."

I use Sennhesier HD429s, ?50/60 quid depending on where you look at sound quality that can easily rival Beats.

even at 320, its still pretty gash.

iirc cd is over 1000kbps and thats seen as pretty poor now.

oh and the dre headphones are made by monster arnt they?

certainly not a company id be buying products from.

the whole thing is about commercialism not audio quality.

they wont sound crap, but value for money, no chance!

i think its the cable that is monster.

i've had sennheiser and bose in the past, for similar prices and neither have been as comfortable as the beats, the bose sound might of been a bit better but after 20 mins of listening my ears were red hot! i've had my beats for almost 2 years now, and i use them every day no damage to them never had a problem unlike headphones i've used in the past

I like em mesen. Can't be doing with the in-ear ones that are always falling out.

Looks like Dre and the folk at Monster have proved you can re-invent the wheel, I'd also surmised you too were the wrong side of 30, like most of us owd feckers on here are BCG

:blum:

And why would someone wear fake ones? To demonstrate they're not only gullible and a fashion victim but, poor too...

(where's the shaking head 'nah' smiley gone?)

I am indeed the wrong side of 30 but I like these headphones from a practical sense. You'll never catch me in anything fake though. If I can't afford the real thing, I do bout.

I'm the wrong side of 40 (as BCG will be soon :D ) & I'm one of those down with it folk too with mufflers on me ears.

It's probably just because I'm fighting it though.

Its not the case of them buying fakes deliberately

Its more the case they are a braindead moron thinking they are getting the real deal at a fraction of the price from places such as these
