August 23, 201213 yr http://youtube.com/watch?v=VMj6Nw_Yafw It's a no for me - the beats a bit wrong for it to be a Northern record. The original was great though Wids. Edited August 24, 201213 yr by Burndens Bogs
August 23, 201213 yr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y1FF4-FNuc I don't mind Northern Soul, though like to move rooms as I do tend find it a bit samey all night, but Zurich, I've seen your posts on here and musically I reckon I would marry you
August 24, 201213 yr I find myself listening to more and more of this NS stuff over the last couple of years. I find it very mellowing. I think I'll buy one of them moped things too.
August 24, 201213 yr glad you approve NB I'm mainly an 80's soul and funk bruvva, though like you Traf, I'm drifting more into NS and mainstream 70's soul these days. Philly soul at the mo. I've always fancied these kind of shindigs, Smiley, but always felt there's a certain snobbery about NS that if you were either too young to have gone to Wigan/Blackpool or don't have a collection of obscure originals costing a ton each, then you weren't worth talking to.

We do the top floor of the blakcburn dos, which a good way of dipping in and out. Plus the bottom floor, you'd love it! If you're in London in November Street Sounds are having a 30th do. See me for ticket details The Fatback Band are playing!
August 24, 201213 yr Prefer the original but not a bad cover, agree with Burndens Bogs though, not a northern beat . This was played on one of the adverts in the build up to the Olympics. Also one of the first NS records I ever bought.
August 24, 201213 yr To save posting pages of NS songs, here are the top 50 (according to one man) I agree with the comment about snobbery, as the Soul scene spanned 2 decades, various clubs played tracks from different years and also had their own favourites, you will never have a general agreement on what is the best or even constitutes NS. I'd never heard the 'Heroes' track at the top of the thread but I'd be happy to shuffle some talc around at the Wheel if they played it.
August 24, 201213 yr Two cracking tunes there Zurich and Andydee, both took me back a bit. It is true about the snobbery etc, when i was a kid of 15 cutting my teeth at Wigan Casino you were nothing if you hadn't been to The Torch at Stoke,or the Twisted Wheel in Manc (they were both before my time).I also noticed that regulars at the Casino never really mixed with regulars of Blackpool Mecca - even though they played very similar music, most people either went to one or the other - very few did both. August 24, 201213 yr Snobbery? I'll concede to 'elitism'. Our thing innit? Our private little world that the plebs and general public don't know about and we have no desire to let them know. That's how it was back in the day but now, NS is as revered a British institution as Madness. Amazing scene down here with 3 or 4 events per month just here in Perth. FYI and interest (by the way, organiser Pete Fowler is a Chorley lad and DMB). http://www.perthsoul.com/ This is one they are currently tearing up the floor with at present:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awirc8n7WFI Edited August 24, 201213 yr by bolty58
August 25, 201213 yr Never heard that one before Bolty nice one.I love some of the old fashioned sexist lyrics that some northern soul songs have, listen to the words of this old classic "I'm through with you girl, you can go on and find you somebody else, i can live cheaper by myself -i don't need no woman to help me starve to death" - priceless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y7z8xoJlwM Edited August 25, 201213 yr by Burndens Bogs

At the last Blackburn all nighter everyone got an invite to be in the film. I've no ambition to be in Hollywood. Though I doubt they pan for long on a fat dancer
