Adlington Trotter
We're only four places behind Dortmund! At least we're ahead of stoke. Wasn't there some crazy stat about us having the lowest losing ratio in Europe? Suppose two defeats in 18 isn't bad. And one of them was thrown by Megson! MalcolmW
These coefficients are designed and used for one purpose, namely to define seedings for the Champions' League and Europa League, for this season. As we are not in European competition, and won't have been for 5 seasons next time around, we won't even be listed next season (whereas Birmingham and Portsmouth will). If Bolton win the CO Cup or qualify as FA Cup winners (or possibly runners-up) they will have the default English coefficient, which is 20% of the average of all other English clubs' results over the relevant 5 seasons. This is what happened to Newcastle this season , and Stoke last. An illustration of how the English club aspect counts is that a Scottish club with equivalent European results to Bolton would be ranked outside the top 100, and, in fact, below the default English coefficient. It's easy to slag off UEFA, but in this case the systems serves its purpose pretty well.
