An Idiot Abroad - Part 187

Right me and a select group of pals are planning the lads holiday of all time....

First stop a week AI in ocean cancun for spring break starting 16th march. That bits all taken care of, the question then is do we fly to LA or San Fransisco for the next 3 nights of fun???

After that its a drive through to Vegas for 3 nights before flying to New York for 4 nights for Easter weekend before flying back to manc.

Could do with a steer off the good folk of WW. San Fran or LA or squeeze both in? Hotels for Vegas / New York? Things to do that can simply not be missed?

You get the gist.....

i prefer san fran but each to their own.

i stay at the venetian in vegas, top hotel...good location, although if your going all out there are a few more expensive.....you can also stay in some poorer hotels for about 30 quid a night. try this website, usually have decent deals lowcostlasvegas.com

oh go to the grand canyon by helicopter....brilliant

For me San Fran is miles better, friendlier locals for a start , less polluted.

Then youve got The Bridge, The piers (countless bars along there), the cable cars and Alcatraz.

If you have the time its worth getting a car too, lots of nice places nearby (sonoma being one)

I find LA a bit of a let down to be honest.

LA I reckon, San Fran is ok but I recon youd get more out of LA.

Andaz on Sunset Boulevard decent enough hotel with plenty bars and stuff around it.

The drive from LA to Vegas is decent enough from there too, then in Vegas, Someone like Planet Hollywood I wouldnt go high end hotels as for the amount of time you'll spend in the hotel room it wouldnt be worth it.

Grand Canyon is on the list as is the sopranos tour in New York.

We are leaning towards San Fran but are a bit concerned about the 8 hour drive to Vegas. Could always fly I suppose!

Its a nice drive though!

Done the Sopranos tour, I used to live in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and everyone used to tell me this was in Sopranos, that was in Sopranos, but id never seen the show. When I moved back home earlier this year I bought the DVD and was amazed how many places i knew on there!

Anyway, if you like the Sopranos, its really really great.

aye sopranos tour is a must, loved it

Cancun during Spring break is mental, Quality bing too

when in NYC stay in the Meat Packing district

You might struggle to get your flights at a half decent price doing it in that order though so you are prob looking at.

New York

Cancun

LA then Vegas

Fly back from Las Vegas via NYC all with United

Got the lights at 1000 all in

Manc to cancun 330

Cancun to San Fran or LA 220

Vegas to NYC 80

NYC to manc 400

Not bad at that I thought, will have a look at this meat packing place.

Who are your flights with?

Meatpacking distric is the place to go, Gansevoort Hotel is the best one but can be quite pricey, you could always stay near by but go there at night etc

Use Delta multi trip planner

I did:

London > Vegas (via NY)

Vegas > New Orleans

New Orleans > New York (via Memphis)

New York > London

All for £450

Southwest? Jetblue?

Reason i asked, I work for United, so couldve sorted seats out!

Dont overpack! US airlines charge for checking bags in domestically (even if its 1 bag)

Virgin America are quite good

Will check and come back to you, cheers for the heads up.

Gonzo- it's unlikely I will get out of Mexico by the sound of this bing!

Stopped at Riviera in Vegas, far end of strip, older hotel so cheap. That's the one Casino was filmed in.

Is it worth paying big bucks for a hotel you are basically getting your head down in?

We did a 9 seater over Grand Canyon, will be doing helicopter next time.

San Fran rather than LA

Checked again and there is a flight cancun to San Fran with united the same money £207

Better off with your lot pal?

Make sure you go to Coco Bongo in Cancun....

Craziest club Ive ever been in.

Cancun, spring break.

I bet you don't leave there.

TBH mate, theres not much difference, you'll be on a narrow body plane, the only difference you can get with us is can earn miles if you are travelling UA, and to be even more honest if the aircraft is from San Fran it will be a pre merger United aircraft (ie quite old) compared to a new(er) virgin plane. They also offer wifi on board and the in flight entertainment is better...So all things being equal, if i were you id stick with Virgin for that flight.
