An Idiot Abroad - Part 187

Right me and a select group of pals are planning the lads holiday of all time....

First stop a week AI in ocean cancun for spring break starting 16th march. That bits all taken care of, the question then is do we fly to LA or San Fransisco for the next 3 nights of fun???

After that its a drive through to Vegas for 3 nights before flying to New York for 4 nights for Easter weekend before flying back to manc.

Could do with a steer off the good folk of WW. San Fran or LA or squeeze both in? Hotels for Vegas / New York? Things to do that can simply not be missed?

You get the gist.....

No worries! The way we are overbooking flights in and out of SFO,if you are flexible with your plans you might be able to grab yourself a few quid compo!!

Agree with Gonzo, Coco Bongo is mental, and spring break will be full of yank strumpet (be full of yank knobheads on their first trip away from home as well, but you take the rough with the smooth!!!)

Another tip I can give is if you want to save a few quid, stop at an airport hotel at JFK and get the subway into manhattan, Ive saved a lot of money in the past doing this, if all you want is somewhere to put your head down these are ideal.

Southwest? Jetblue?

Reason i asked, I work for United, so couldve sorted seats out!

Dont overpack! US airlines charge for checking bags in domestically (even if its 1 bag)

Virgin America are quite good

Thought you would have worked for Con Air

Thought you would have worked for Con Air

I did. Sort of.

That's the one Casino was filmed in.

Doing what?

Playing darts

Not been to LA, don't fancy it (tours around Hollywood etc)

San Francisco is ace

I liked San Fran, as been mentioned already Alcatraz, piers, canary wharf etc and Lombard Street are must see's and theres a pub called Jack's Bar at the cannery which has about 70 different hand pulled beers from around the world. Hotels wise, there is a hooters which is relatively cheap and right on fishermans wharf.

Vegas is my playground, I love it there. For location, you can't beat Flamingo and it also has the best pool imo. Monte Carlo and Cosmopolitan are also top hotels if staying with a group of lads. Don't bother with Paris, Bally's, Aria - I find them all a bit sterile. Grand Canyon is a must as is either a sky dive or jumping off the stratosphere for the skyjump. Have a look at www.looktours.com for some ideas of trips - used these a few times, always reliable etc. Clubs wise, have a look on www.vegas.com for the 'drink all you can' package in VooDoo Lounge in Rio - I was carted out in a wheel chair after hammering that place! The Playboy lounge in Palms is also top notch - If you need a full break down of clubs etc i've been to, I will send you a pm.

In New York, I stopped in Hotel Stanford - its a clean and tidy enough hotel, similar in standard to our premier inn's, not luxury but plenty good enough. It is right outside the Empire State Building so top location. Got to go round central park, up the rockerfeller and to Liberty though the lines for the boat for liberty can be huge. If you are not bothered about going onto the island itself, go on the staten island ferry - its free and quick and easy to get on and yes it sells beer. Near where you get on the staten island ferry is stone street, its like an oldy worldy street in the middle of the financial district. Have a look for McSorleys pub, the oldest pub in NYC and also hunt down Hogs & Heifers in the meat packing district - its the pub which Coyote Ugly is based on, a real scruffy bikers pub, its great and the barmaids are fit as! Oh yeah, the other H&H is in Vegas and just off Freemont Street

Rented a house in Harlem last year when I went with 4 mate's. I remember being surprised at how reasonable it was.. if you want some excitement hire a bike in Manhattan.. great way to get around and the added bonus of near death experiences..we also did San Francisco, miles better then los Angeles we did the drive to Vegas but took a week so fair play on doing that.. in Vegas get down to freemont street for a night.. its cheaper and a bit more dirtier people wise well worth a visit.. if you can change your schedule go to New Orleans best place we went to in America.. like already mentioned make sure you see the grand canyon.. not sure how long your in San Francisco but Santa Cruz is just down the coast and worth a night out

We will never see you again.

Ha ha very much this.

Ha ha very much this.

If you do Alcatraz, book before hand ... its always full, and Yes San Fran over LA everytime

Make sure you go to Coco Bongo in Cancun....

Craziest club Ive ever been in.

I second this

San Fran over L.A. .??

What the foooook are you lot drinking ?

Seconded about new orleans

I though LA was a bit shite when i was there, but it was 20 years ago.

Have you not considered flying to San Diego and taking in the delights of Tijuana?

San Diego is a great city.

Aye, really like LA. Great weather, beaches. Something SF doesnt have. In fact the weather there is pretty shit.

But, not sure it has that tourist thing SF has. Alcatraz, cable car/tram, Lombard St, Golden Gate etc. Iconic stuff.

A lot of the LA tourist stuff seems to be related to films. Did a bus tour round LA, and it was all "Frank Sinatra once ate a hot dog here" blah blah

San Diego is a great city.

Aye, agreed. Fookin great drink too.

Having done the drive from LA to Vegas I have to say it's well worth it, the scenery is amazing.

Stop off at the Big Boy in Baker about halfway across. The world's largest thermometer is there and they do some damn tasty burgers.

There's a belting pizza place on Sunset Strip, New York pizza I think, it's worth a visit to see all the different signatures of famous folk on the wall, and the chocolate cake is beautiful.

Santa Monica is definitely worth a visit too.

Didn't make it to San Fran or San Diego

All the Americans I met when I travelled America, couldn't understand why I was going LA and not San Diego.

Didn't really enjoy LA, but then again it was our last destination and I was completely ruined from 3 nights in Vegas.

Sorry pal I meant San Fran (bell end).

The only thing good about San Diego is it is the gateway to Mexico.......

Jammy bastard

It won't count as a success though unless you are pictured in a police snap, having been arrested for blowing bing up a hookers arse through a hundred dollar bill.
