Anyone ever bought one, are they worth looking at or leave well alone?

 

Fella at work was going on about them today, he reckons there a good option,

I know a bloke with one, well looked after but holes were they've had stuff fitted.

Pros... regular services, maintenance.

 

Cons... very high mileage, been ragged to fuckery.

 

Pretty much like buying an ex hire car. (my current one is, and it's a belter)

The high mileage, when is a car classed as "run in"

 

Again I've no idea, I think I've got high mileage at 40k in my car

police cars tend to do 40k a year.

 

that's high, so depends how old it is, think they used to keep em for 3 years, but seen older recently, prob due to financial cuts.

 

12k a year is average.

They'll be high mileage but you know they've been properly looked after.

 

As Carlos says though, there'll be plenty of holes where the previous kit had been fitted.

These are the ex patrol cars you're on about mainly. 'Plain clothes' cars are probably better as they have less of a tendency to drill holes in them to fit stuff. They do still have higher miles than your average motor but are well maintained and when stuff is replaced it's with the proper kit and new not refurbished or used.

 

Plus with these you have more choice (they use some nice kit such as Subaru's, Beemers and Audis these days) and they won't be all white!

 

Good luck, there are plenty out there and they're a bargain. You'll save a wad of cash and (depending upon what you buy) will still worry a load of ne'erdowells when they clock you in their rear view.

yes they have been a bit battered but the upkeep and replacement of parts is second to none especially in the proper pursuit cars. And they tend to be serviced more regularly than manufacturers advise.

Ever seen a 16 year old astra do 80 in third gear ? 70 miles to gallon.

Had a Volvo v40 that was plan clothes. Mechanically sound but had issues with lights and short circuits where sirens were ripped out.

look in british car auctions for preston they have regular police car sales .....also damn fine looking drivers .well one anyway.........
