January 21, 201313 yr seems like this is the new money making scam for cheap n cheerful car hire companies! hired a car just before christmas. used it for a day and dropped it off at Mcr Airport next news theres a £300 `damage` charge on my credit card. they say 3 of the alloy wheels have been scuffed around the outside edge. 1. load of bollocks because it was driven for 200 miles in a straight line then parked 2. how can you scuff the inside edge of 3 wheels on 2 sides of a car at the same time i checked the car before and after i dropped it. they`ve sent pictures as proof but its so minor that i wouldn`t have noticed it and even if i had i wouldn`t have thought anything of it. any legal bods out there know what the correct procedure is to contest it? i`ll start with trying a credit card charge back i guess
January 21, 201313 yr They're buggers with alloys these days. Once ripped the roof off a 7.5 tonne wagon and they said I wasn't covered (no pun intended). Went to court, I won arguing it wasn't detailed sufficiently clearly on the hire agreement. It also possibly helped when the other parties mobile went off and he went to answer it!!
January 21, 201313 yr How come it wasnt checked and signed to say it was okay (or not) when you dropped it off? Speak to the credit card company and contest it.

Did they inspect the car with you when you dropped it off? If not then argue then how can they prove it was you? And if the damage is so minimal, can't you argue reasonable wear and tear using the car for its indended purpose? Also, ask for the original electronic copies of the photos to see when they were taken. I'd hazard a guess they've been used before!

January 21, 201313 yr You will have signed it back in as in good condition. Well, you should have. They should have given you a copy of the sheet detailing any issues there and then. They cannot do wht they have done UNLESS you didn't sign anything!!
January 21, 201313 yr On a similar vein, came back from Manchester Saturday morning to find out somebody had hit my car and ripped off the wing mirror. It's electric and heated so would be very expensive to replace. Thought I'd just have to grin and bear it. Luckily I have two witnesses who saw a gas board van drive off. I don't have the registration but the guys working across the road know who it was.
