...which is another way of saying that the view of someone without kids can't possibly be as valid as the view of someone who has. Won't get into the war thing but well informed and thoughtful people do not need to have spent the same 25 months of their lives in various conflict zones I have to tell me something I don't know or expose me to a fact or a different way of thinking to alter my view.

 

Maybe I'm a bit hard-wired over things because it is my daily bread and butter to put prejudice aside and thrash out facts and work out most beneficial courses of action, but I'd be delighted to sit and chew the fat over a pint with anybody, on any subject, if they're rational, well-intentioned, able to put emotion to one side for a minute, prepared to acknowledge facts they don't like, happy to accept that people with different views aren't bad people and aware that facts have the power to change minds.

 

Look, you and I know one another well enough that I hope I don't have to spell out that I know full well why this particular crime invites an angrier response than any other and probably does so for any father.
