Not just me, it's a fact. If it was an answer for anything it would be practiced by more advanced countries. Opposing the death penalty does not make me soft on murderers, rapists, rugby union watchers or anyone else. Likewise, those who study the psychology of child abusers are not out on some sort of quest to normalise it or explain it away.

I'm not a fan of capital punishment, though had someone done something to my little sweetpea no doubt my rational would probably change.

 

However something less extreme but along the same lines might be a better deterrent. I think we should bring back the stocks. The culprits can sit there half naked for a couple of days and nights in the centre of towns and the general public can jeer, throw veg and rotting fruit at the fuckers. The embarrassment of this potential humiliation would probably deter a lot more scumbags than any other punishment out there today.

If pressed to name a 'top 3' advanced countries I would almost certainly say the USA, Japan and Germany. Two of the 3 have capital punishment. One of them hung three murderers only this week.

The point being made is very, very straightforward and has been repeated a million times on this board, never mind in the wider world, Look at a list of countries without the death penalty, then look at a list of countries who've kept it. See if you can identify what the ones who've kept it share in common, with the exception of the US. Decide which club you want Australia to be in.

 

Countries with decent aspirations are dropping it. There's only a handful of American states which killed anyone in the last couple of years. It's going out of fashion becasue it has proven time and time again not to work as a punishment, a deterrent, a fair application of justice or anything else, and yet you sit there and talk as if it's opponents with the explaining to do.

It's a mad comparison, but again, there is middle ground between kill them and pity them. Even within individual offences there are massive shades of grey. Not all murders are the same. Not all sex crimes with children involved are the same. Not all scraps at football matches are the same. The complications have to be taken account of. This kill or suddle thing doesn't do that.

So let's say, for argument's sake, that my view was that a proven child rapist should be castrated, tortured by the public live on telly, but not to the point of death, then placed into solitary confinement with two bits of bread and a mug of mucky water to feed on every day, with no form of comfort, entertainment or human contact of any sort until death takes place naturally. That would put me in the cuddle them camp section would it? And why not be pre-emptive? Let's euthanise the victims as well because they are highly more likely to be abusers as adults? Let's scan feotuses for the child abuse gene and kill them in the womb too.

 

For what it's worth, I would like the authorities to take whatever measure is most likely to reduce instances of child abuse. That's the bigger picture. EVERYONE, whether a stoner or a sandal knitter, wants these attacks on children to come to an end. That's a given. Show me where stoning them would do any good except make you feel a bit better and appn I'll come over to your side. Don't make the mistake of thinking I care a fuck about these peoples' lives. I am employed in the field of killing of the bad for the benefit of the good. No moral difficulty with morally justified killing whatsoever.
