Bwfc Footage From The Itn Archives

ITN is in the process of digitising their archive of old news reports and uploading it to their site. There's a lot of BWFC related stuff on there including preview clips in some cases. Here's a few examples.

F.A. Cup semi-final replay at Burnden (1970)

Still to come. League Cup semi-final at Burnden 1977:

... and the promotion game at Ewood Park 1978:

The shot lists should give you some idea of what the packages include.

It's an absolute treasure trove. I've never seen footage of the 1926 F.A. Cup Final with footage of Bolton supporters outside Wembley before:

Brilliant stuff.

52 seconds in, Bolton player in the middle of the picture pulls his hamstring running onto the pitch. :D

Great stuff mate...

Fuck me,Des McBain looks dead in the Gamma clip!

Its about time ITV released footage of the Bolton games from the past it has in its archive. Some is already in circulation as a result of "The Big Match Revisited". Much of this is on You Tube. However, check out all the Bolton games that were covered and broadcast in the Sunday lunch time spot ... presented by Gerald Sinstadt and Elton Welsby. I'd love to see some of these games again. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/carousel/KickOffMatch.html

Operation Gamma was almost 25 years ago?

Ronnie Irani was there.

Dean fucking Holdsworth

Amazing footage of the complete chaos at the F.A. Cup Final v West Ham. Some nice shots of supporters arriving by both motor vehicles and horse drawn carriage! (1923)

36 seconds in my favourite bit the Bolton player standing in front of the Manchester road stand which had did not change by the time of my first game 51 years later, int he background is the house on the Embankment where a couple of Bolton players were born, any old timers rememeber when that was demolished?

Yep, the replay. First match, David Hoggan scored a couple for us. There's a long forgotten name!

good player hoggan

last time i checked he was involved in youth football in the u.s

i think they equalised at the death of the first game

raimonndo ponte rings a bell...and no, i don't know what i had for tea last night

I think you're right about Hoggan being in the US. He was a good un'. I can't remember Forest's late equaliser but I certainly remember Trevor Francis scoring very late against us in the First Division. We were winning 0-1 at the City Ground. Had we held out it would have been Forest's first home defeat in some ridiculous number of games. Francis always scored against us!!

Went to the replay can't remember an awful lot except we were in the corner of the open end and I remember thinking great result against a team who had recently won the European cup, the rest of the 80s were a terrible time to be a White the club seemed to have lost all direction and the damage to our support base in the 80s must have been massive, it was very easy for fans to turn away from the club we were shockingly awful. Oh and Hoggan was a class act he went on to play and score a shed load of goals in the U.S. a wasted talent.

i want to see whatmores goal in the away semi at everton - all i remember is that it was late and went in right in front of half the bolton fans

and, less likely, the worthington goal at qpr that was covered by bbc news

I'd love to see Frank's winning goal at Old Trafford in 1979 but doubt it was televised. Would also like to see us stuffing Bury 4-0 at the Reebok in 1998, never seen those goals since the day itself. More likely to be on film somewhere.
