Bwfc Footage From The Itn Archives

ITN is in the process of digitising their archive of old news reports and uploading it to their site. There's a lot of BWFC related stuff on there including preview clips in some cases. Here's a few examples.

(Click 'PLAY CLIP' button under preview and then click arrows at top right of clip to view full screen)

Still to come. League Cup semi-final at Burnden 1977:

... and the promotion game at Ewood Park 1978:

The shot lists should give you some idea of what the packages include.

I'd love to see Frank's winning goal at Old Trafford in 1979 but suspect some dirty red lost the tape on the way back to the studio

tho, i wonder if the 3-0 was filmed

friday night, no other games

There's a sign for the 'Evening News' in the background, so some of the footage might actually be from Trinity Street. Great shot of the two supporters carrying a crate of beer bottles at the station! Shame there's no sound but the shot list gives you some idea of what the fans said: 'Should have been 4 clear goals'.

I don't think it was. It certainly doesn't show up on any of the lists of games shown on "The Big Match", "Kick Off", midweek specials etc. Then again, neither do some of the other things that appear on ITN Source. Some of those things were obviously filmed for clips in standard news bulletins as opposed to be footy programmes

I'd burst me banks if we found footage of that!

Dinnertime kick off on New Year's Day...fucking awful atmosphere.

Worst ever hangover at a match

I was at that game and remember the build up before the match and seem to remember loads of united leaving at HT but everything else is a complete and utter blank, the mind is a strange thing, wish I could unlock the memories of that night, can any one jog the memory?

Seem to remember it being a bit misty.

Frank Worthington made an total and utter clown of Gordon McQueen.

I also have a sweet memory of United having two goals disallowed after the score had reached 3-0. On each occasions their support started to celebrate only to have their delight evaporate.

nah

he'd have been away from bolton whatever

The beginning of the decline that documentary I'm sure we'd be still up there without the shock waves of that programme.

no we wouldn't as the peoples republic of bolton decided they couldn't be arsed supporting their team, and as a side start to wear a munich tops to show their devotion to the greatest team in the land.

or people stopped following their team.

Nope, the closest I got was watching the team bus go through Moses Gate with the cup...my dad was the mechanic at Mills and Seddon and ended up driving the second bus with the wives and families....he lifted me up to touch the cup when it was on display at the town hall....we had a full time mascot in those days, remember that old woman Florence who went to all the games ?...well the mascot was her son, he has the yellow away shirt with the embroided Elephant and Castle badge on it....it must be worth a fortune today
