If I remember right it's down to modern agriculture and the much lower number of wild flowers. Saw a programme on it earlier this year and how serious the problem is. I actually went out and bought a

We have some purple flowers that attract loads of bees but they're not out for long, what do I plant to support them for longer next year?

Pleased to spot three different types of butterfly whilst doing the garden at weekend.

Seems to be plenty of butterflies around at the moment. Hadn't really noticed until Saturday and there were loads when I was playing cricket. Have they all metamorphosised (or whatever) late this year?

that's good news, not seen to many myself.

Andy- bees see blue better than any other colour, so tend to favour blue flowers. A range of flowering times is best to provide food all year.

They love lavenders, its also important to have early flowering stuff so there's food when they wake up.

Escalonia (shrub) also impressive when buzzing.

Loads of info about on the internet, also wildflower seed mixes available specially for them.

thems were bees not wasps. wasps don't leave the stinger behind, leaving them free to sting repeatedly. don't think that wasp stings are as bad as bees though!

Must have been then - I was only a nipper. I always had this idea that bees built their hives in trees etc. This was a mound on the ground which I sat on.

Bumble bees use holes in the ground etc. Apparently wasps nests that are low down should be given more 'respect' than those high up. They are more aggressive!
