November 11, 20178 yr Iirc bolton-bury is 6 miles along the a58. (Sign at top of radcliffe moor road). Dunno about the other.
November 11, 20178 yr Author Leigh have never had a border with Wigan, you have to pass through three inbred towns before arrival.
November 11, 20178 yr Not a lot in it, but town centre to town centre Bolton is slightly closer to Bury than Leigh is to Wigan.
November 11, 20178 yr Just been on google maps and measured against my finger. same distance. Can't get more scientific than that.
November 11, 20178 yr Leigh have never had a border with Wigan, you have to pass through three inbred towns before arrival. Hindley Green,Hindley + Ince? They are all in Wigan so technically Wigan does border Leigh - unless i'm missing summat?
November 11, 20178 yr Author A different accent, but it's dead easy to suss out. I cant tell a Bolton from a Bury one to be honest.
November 11, 20178 yr A different accent, but it's dead easy to suss out. I cant tell a Bolton from a Bury one to be honest.Bury is just a Manc wannabe accent, Wigan is much broader than Bolton and easy to spot the difference. Farnworth + Horwich accents are slightly different to Bolton imo.
November 11, 20178 yr Is Leigh it's own town, or a "village/district" of Wigan? (In the same way that Ickle Lever is part of Bolton, even though it thinks it's a real, independent place)
November 11, 20178 yr Author Little Lever and Radcliffe girls always sounded in the same dialect, and further up town to Whitefield it changed to half manc.
November 11, 20178 yr Is Leigh it's own town, or a "village/district" of Wigan? (In the same way that Ickle Lever is part of Bolton, even though it thinks it's a real, independent place) Leigh is on it's own imo
November 11, 20178 yr Bolton and bury are two different towns Leigh is part of Wigan Hth All four towns (Bolton,Leigh,Wigan ,Bury) have a sense of identity about them, as do the smaller towns around these areas. Government boundaries/boroughs can fuck right off, but folk become far too worked up about it (a bit like me now)
November 11, 20178 yr Is Leigh it's own town, or a "village/district" of Wigan? (In the same way that Ickle Lever is part of Bolton, even though it thinks it's a real, independent place) Little Lever's no more than an estate in my opinion, but definitely a local estate for local people.
November 11, 20178 yr Once Cliff has gone 2018 will see that only those born within the BL1 - BL3 postcodes will be able to call themselves true Boltononians
November 11, 20178 yr Author Aye Like Leigh is a district of Wigan We love our 1974 big brother watching over us .
November 11, 20178 yr Once Cliff has gone 2018 will see that only those born within the BL1 - BL3 postcodes will be able to call themselves true Boltononians i'm alreet then, although i'd take an 'on' out of it. on another note, i see the government are switching the constituencies about, Atherton, Farnworth and Radcliffe joining up to replace the old Bolton South East Edited November 11, 20178 yr by Alf Hartigan
November 11, 20178 yr Author I think the last footballer what was born in Leigh what played for Bolton was Wayne Foster, nearest place is Salford or Wiggin these days to knock a kid out.
November 12, 20178 yr Atherton and radcliffe? Wigan and Bury/Bolton? Aye, boundaries are just pencil lines. Anyway, has anyone been to Darwen recently, cracking place, is it Blackburn though or a town in it's own right like Leigh. I'd say the latter. Known a few folk from Bolton moved there for cheaper housing.
November 12, 20178 yr And what you mention about housing goes fir radcliffe mid 60s My mum n dad couldn't buy what they want in Bolton so went there I think it's changed over the years but the top end of radcliffe was definitely Bolton as I grew up
November 12, 20178 yr Little Lever's no more than an estate in my opinion, but definitely a local estate for local people. Ok, leave our shallow gene pool out of this!
Bolton to Bury or Leigh to Wigan ?
