Is Monaco far in a taxi

no further than it is if you walk

Monaco is not too far..

Back in 1990 five of us did Europe in a car with 120 quid each.

We tried to kip on the beach at Nice but got moved along by the police, so we drove to Monaco half pissed along a cliff top road a ridiculous speeds with the Stone Roses blaring out full whack (very naughty but we were young) and kipped on the harbour amongst the millionaire's yachts, just near the tunnel you see on the Grand Prix.

For sleeping rough though, the best place was Est Sur Mer (Ithink) half way between Monaco and Nice. There was a derelict old hotel with a private beach - had it to ourselves and some German hippies. Still had the beach showers and they still worked. I imagine its been done up now though as it was a prime spot.

I tend to go to Nice every February, its carnival time then. They have street parades and it gets very manic. They also have a battle of the flowers. The airport is only a short busride away from the city centre. The bus drops you outside the main station. Prices are relatively cheap, about the same as here. All the night life seems to be centred in the old town with its narrow streets. The weather in February is quite warm. Beware of skateboarders on the promenade.

Monaco is not far away and easily accessible by both train and bus. The bus companies tend to do a deal where you can get free return travel from Monaco but you can only use that company's buses. If you go to Monaco remember that they are not in the EU as I found to my cost when I fell and dislocated my elbow the other year. It would have been cheaper to get a taxi to a hospital in France. Cannes is also not far away and worth a visit. If you are taking your lady, the town of Grasse centre of the perfume industry is nearby.

I never saw any goats in Nice.

Top place but a bit pricy on the front.

Go a couple of streets inland and it becomes more reasonable.

Use Mappy.co.uk for interactive maps - it's a frog site so is quite detailed. Aerial photos too, and it's click and draggable rather than using the directional arrows.

the airport is to the south west of the city, Monaco is further up towards Italy - only about 20 minutes or so by bus.

And how far is the old town from the Promenade des Anglais

So, if Monacco is not in the EU, does that mean I can get a load of duty free fags.....

Biffo, what will the weather be like on Saturday and I've got some inflatable sheep so don't worry

I am actually going to see the Stranglers on Saturday in Nice, the problem is that the venue has burnt down and I haven't a clue where the new place is..... so I'm trying to find out a bit about the place before booking a hotel suitable for Stranglers gig and the nightlife

The nearest anallogy I can think of is:

The bd d l'Ariane to Nice Centre is like the Reebok to Bolton town centre,

ie. it isn't there, it's about 4 miles away.

According to Mappy

Well, who's been - been about 5 times, got married there.

How far is the airport from the city centre - about 10 mins by car

How much does it cost in a taxi - a lot, taxis cost a fortune (about ??20 to City from airport)

Is there a train from the airport to the centre - not that O know of, can get a bus though

Is beer and food expensive - In summer, beers about ??5 a pint on the sea front. Food isn't too bad.

Are there any womble shops - what the.....?

Where's all the nightlife - in the old town part of Nice.

Where can I get an online map of the city

Is Monaco far in a taxi - about 25 - 30 mins drive (see above for cost)

Any anything else of interest - beach in Nice is shit, all shingle. Go up the coast to Frejus or St Raphael or Antibes, etc for decent beaches. There are also many fine examples of Palm Trees and the people are wonkers (misspelt purposely to denote French accent!).

Hope this helps.

Felgate - your local travel companion

The airport is about 4 1/2 miles west of the city centre.

If you're hiring a car, it's easy to get from the airport to Nice, Monaco and Italy via the Promenade des Anglais to Cannes and Antibes via the motorway A8, Route National 98 and Route National 7, and to Digne and Grenoble via Route National 202.

The drive to the centre of Nice takes 15 minutes.

The number 23 or 98 or 99 runs every 15 minutes directly to the city centre from the airport and takes just 20 mins and costs 3.50 Euros or 4 Euros for an all day ticket.

There are also trains from the airport every 30 minutes to Cannes Gare St Laurent du Var and every 45 minutes to Nice (Gare Nice Ville).

There are taxi ranks in front of both terminals. The ride to the city centre takes approx. 15 minutes.

Cost: ??? 30: which is a bit steep for a 4.5 mile journey.

Hope some of this helps.

Just back from Nice after watching Liverpool get beat by Monaco. Taxi from airport 25 euros. Train to Monaco 5.40 euros but Liverpool fans don't pay. Booze around 6 euros for a pint glass but don't expect it to be full.

Ticket for match 10 yes that's TEN euros not the ragging ??40 Chelski wanted !!!!

PS game was crap - give me the Whites long ball stuff every time.

Remember these?
