Savoury Ducks

Reet.....this is a new one on me

Every time we go to Ashton market Mrs Manc buys her Dad two savoury ducks. They look like big stuffing balls that you'd have with roast turkey

He has them for breakfast. Him and his sister used to get them from Salford market but they don't do them any more so we pick them up for him from Ashton

I was like "fuck off, duck for breakfast?". Never been anywhere near a feathered friend. Taste like Irish white pudding and turns out they are similar to faggots, made from various offal, pork and herbs

Just tried one. They are on the breakfast menu tomorrow with a poached egg and thick sliced white toast. Amazing!!

Apparently they are Lancashire based but I've never heard of them before. Highly recommended

My only point of reference is Irish white pudding

Never found it over here until I went to Bury (took a wrong turn)

Our Maude has it spread on toast like pate, I reckon she’ll be all over this

The only white pudding over here that I’ve found is that Clonakilty shite. Buckleys is the best and we are lucky we get it brought over by the relatives. Smooth like a Brussels pate and very peppery

Yep. Dry fry it and spread it on toast and an egg on top

This savoury duck not quite so spreadable but bet she likes it. You could get favours for finding it

Think they are basically just faggots like you've said.

White pudding has always been available but suppose it depends if you knew where to get it, he must be dead now but a bloke called Pious (maybe Pius I suppose) used to deliver it to shops around Manchester 90s onwards. Bit of a dubious character by some accounts.

Nice one pal. We are currently banned again from meeting up at work but once it opens up again I’ll be at The Village in Leith

Your butchery recommendations are always top notch

Not had savoury duck since darts and doms night at the Skenners in Tyldesley in the 70s, tasted miles better than Brains faggots.

My dad used to have them, affectionately known locally as 'slavvery ducks'

FiL calls them savvery ducks

Not heard of these since the 70's. I believe that they were a Lancashire thing but some Stokies I used to know claimed them as one of theirs. My grandad loved them. He also loved cow heel, tripe and other assorted offal products, many of which turned my stomach!

Amazed to hear that savoury ducks may still be around.

Slightly off piste but when I was last in Bolton, the Pack Horse at Affetside was serving Lancashire cheese samosas and spring rolls. They were superb.
