School Holidays

First day of the school holidays today, my eldest (9) was out of the door on his BMX at 8 bells knocking his other gang mates up to finish off their den, oh to be that age again. 6 year old wants to play with them but can’t keep up on his bike so he’s kicking off. Baby is on his 3rd Nappy change.

Can’t wait to get back in work next week.

Theres no one saying it’s not a good idea. The thing many are understandably pissed off with is the lack of inclusion for others. Not sure how you brought your kids up but mine are taught to treat all

  • So RWs kids cant go on these activities with their mates cos hes not struggling enough to get free school meals Thats his issue and its not so difficult to understand, is it?

Don't hate saying it. If he's right, he's right. Fair enough. 🤷‍♂️

Bit like complaining about people using foodbanks though. "How come those poor people are getting free food, but I've got to pay for mine?!"

Still not convinced though. If you really wanted your child to attend one of these events, I'm sure they'd be able to accomodate you, even if it meant paying for it.

😂😂 you really are a clown aren’t you .

All day, every day. Glad to hear you've decided to become a Socialist though. There's hope for you yet!

Salford council have made a right fucking dogs dinner of this

Aye, even if RWs kids had to pay

Well seems there's loads of free activities for kids throughout summer even if you aren't on free school meals in Salford. Looks like the council are doing really good work, and especially for those kids who need more support throughout the summer break.

This looks great (and it's at the school my dad used to be deputy at)

And you need to be on free school meals to qualify to get on it.

Which is RW's point.

Strange way of getting folks hopes up

Start off with

"Free multi-activity camp for all"

Then pow

"This camp is aimed at individuals that receive benefits related free school meals."

Does aimed mean exclusively?

they are HAF tickets.

HAF tickets are available for those who qualify for FSM.

This holiday provision is for school aged children from reception to year 11 (inclusive) - four to 16 year olds - who receive benefits-related free school meals.

Benefits-related free school meals (FSM) are available to pupils if their parents are in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits, and have a claim verified by their school or local authority.

HAF funding for Salford Holiday Fun programmes will only be available to provide free places for children who go to school in Salford and are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.

So not free for all then

I feel RWs frustration

You can also access them if you fall in anything of the below. I think its great, and should be commended that there is provision for kids who fall through the gaps when the support of a school isn't there.

These also loads of other free and low cost summer activities families can access in Manchester, we did this bike thing in Sale last summer - cost a few quid.

It's certainly not something to have a winge about.

  • children assessed by the local authority as being in need, at risk or vulnerable
  • young carers
  • looked-after children or previously looked after children
  • children with an EHC plan (education, health and care)
  • children with special educational needs and/or disabilities who are not eligible for free school meals
  • children who have low attendance rates at school or who are at risk of exclusion

Also slightly ironic that the person whinging that society isn't Socialist enough, and the Government/Council should provide free activities for ALL children, is a raging Right Winger..

I agree, I applaud this, but they should also accommodate people who can pay in full so affluent parents can send kids there with their scrubber mates

Where did I say it should be free for all? I’m don’t mind paying my way like I always have.

Is there a section where all the parents can go and drink free Frosty Jack cider?

I know, I was saying it's a good thing.

You got excited about free activities, and then were disappointed that they were only free for certain kids. I'm fairly sure if you phoned them up and told them your kids were eager to participate and you'd happily contribute that they'd find a way.

Its about places and provision though. There are more than enough activities free and low cost for families to do in the summer whi come from a secure and stable background.

This is support for kids who don't have that, and it's a good thing that money is being put in to support them.

I honestly don't know why anyone would have an issue with a really good progressive policy to help those who need it most.

Theres no one saying it’s not a good idea. The thing many are understandably pissed off with is the lack of inclusion for others. Not sure how you brought your kids up but mine are taught to treat all other kids the same. Kids from around here are mates regardless of backgrounds. These same kids now can’t do activities with their mates because of how their school dinners are funded. If you can’t see a problem there, regardless of political beliefs, then you’re part of the problem.

Yes, because its council provision for the poorest kids.

As I say I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with it.

I can and i would be just like RW, so i will leave it there

Let everybody come and its free if youre a scutter

RW has to pay
