  1. Aye junction numbers and " westbound anti clockwise" etc when on about M60, takes me ages to work out where they are on about then usually too late and sat in the fucker. just say where the problem is
  2. yeh, dont see it as an argument to win or lose to be honest mate, just opinions and comments, but Ill settle for a draw
  3. aye combination of age and too many of them gigs, used to be workplace that caused most hearing damage, more lately a rise in people who never worked in a noisy environment, but went to a lot of gigs. I spent my apprenticeship cleaning mixers with a cp9, thats whats caused mine, yours could be a result of too many gigs over a long period of time.
  4. yep, think i have a mild version of it, can always hear what sounds like ,say, and electric fan or motor when trying to sleep, so much so, when i first noticed it, i was up half the night looking for where i'd left something switched on, even thinking there was an electrical short behind the wall or under the floor boards. it was only after hours of searching that i realised the noise level didnt change when i went in different rooms, so blocked my ears with earphones and lo and behold noise still there. It's a twat, but manageable, i'd get it checked out professionally but in the meantime try this (or similar) if its affecting your slee http://www.virtualdreamer.com/tinnitus.html edit: link didn't work
  5. you know what, you have a point there, some follow both but not many go to the games outside Dublin, and within Dublin a relevantly recent rise in hooligan elements in the different dublin support bases makes it safer stay home or go to the pub and watch Arsenal etc. plus the standard is shite so it's a vicious circle, but, had many an argument over there as a kid when people would say Bolton are shite etc and "we" are miles better etc, and "we" was a team from London or Liverpool or whatever. I would counter with, aye they may be, but they'd piss on Bohemians or Shamrock Rovers or whoever the local team was, but they never got what I was saying. lot of towns, most infact, dont even have a football club in the Irish league so locals just follow who's on TV or whoever the latest Irish stars are playing for. ( Brady stapleton and Quinn are the reason a lot started to follow Arsenal in them days for example) but, outside Dublin most focus on GAA for the most part with a passing interest in football when its on the tv. Even in Dublin, local football would play second fiddle to the Dublin Gaelic football team
  6. didn't say it didn't happen, said it was childish response, I have been in bars in Ireland when the opposite happened, and been in bars there when it happened just as you described, but, lets be honest, there is nowt wrong with wanting your neighbour to fail and not do as well as your own team, perfect example of rivalry, but, to say its just because "they dont want us to win" is bollox and childish, loads would have a genuine reason why they wouldn't want Ireland to win fuck all, but lets not pretend it's just because they dont like England is the point I am making.
  7. it is, it used to be due to the fact that all were English league based (still are) and some even English born, but if you were to base it on league players now they'd have every country as a home nation as most Euro teams have a good selection of prem stars.
  8. thats absolutley fine, thats what I'm saying. its the perception that people are using" they dont like us so we dont like them" bollox. perfectly understand a variety of other reasons, and to be honest, dont understand why the English/British media give em so much air time as if they were a home nation, but the they dont like us so we dont like them is a bit childish and lets be honest, not even the real reason most wouldn't want em to win.
  9. to say they dont want us to win so we dont want them to win is frankly childish. If you dont want them to win because you dont like them or for political reasons then fair enough, but Jesus, " they dont want us to win so ner ner we wont want you to win" how do you know they dont want you to win because you dont want them to win? thats the next stage on that argument- "well they started it" jesus, if you dont like Ireland and dont want them to win fuck all, say so, but lets not say its because they support who evers playing England, because it's a) not enirely true and b ) it's a fucking childish response.
  10. aye, but who do you follow in the GAA, that's the important thing ps no offence if you hate it
  11. aye fair point,I'll concede that point thinking about it, suppose it could be seen that way, and i was more thinking of the vests/ jerseys/tracksuits etc to be honest, but yeh, I can see that point now, just never thought of it that way, suppose it depends which viewpoint you look at it from,, never really thought about it that much to be honest, but always thought it was a good thing as most elect to represent, and possibly due to the competition factor more get the chance to go. But suppose there will always be the "republican" factor with an island team of any description that some will be opposed to and some will love because of it. you may find this an interesting debate/ article http://premierkj.hubpages.com/hub/Rory-McIlroy-Identity-Crisis nothing to do with the olympics but good points on teams/affiliations etc. prob wont interest anyone else
  12. aye, but then we can quote the Olympic council of Ireland saying they represent the island, as someone else said, depends on who they are affiliated to in their chosen sport. Don't think Ireland has been known at the games as the "republic" is the point I was making, dont think the team display the tricolour but shamrocks? its known as "Ireland" as, as you say, can elect to represent either. ( known as Eire or the free state in some early years, but in modern times) I may well be wrong but it's just the way i've always understood it. I personally think, the majority of decisions, depend on competition for team places rather than a persons political persuasion, especially in a sport such as boxing where Britain is strong for example, your a young lad from Belfast competing against young lads from all over Britain and your the same weight as the likes of Amir Khan, or, your up against three or four from all over Ireland and maybe even a shoe in to go because they only have that many. choice between not going as britain or competing as team Ireland must be only one winner for most to be honest. probably the same reason Mcguigan represented NI even though he's from the republic.
  13. nope, he fought for Ireland at the olympics. Due to the fact the olympic council of ireland represents the island and not the two states on it (in most olympic sports) as well as that, there is no "UK" team to wich NI belongs, the team is team GB as stated, so, they are not representing the republic or northern ireland but Ireland as a whole.
  14. had similar experiences to that over the years, hope all's well mate
  15. which bit bugged him then? the fact Wales isn't represented on it?
  16. indeed, but to teach you the term union Jack was in correct was wrong.
  17. no offence taken, I don't blame you for that one bit, but , it doesn't change the fact your teacher was wrong here's a link to the British Flag institute and a link to the parliamentary bill of 2008 re affirming the dual term of union flag and union jack, first laid before parliament 1908. ( i did say 1902 earlier but was wrong on that) http://www.flaginstitute.org/index.php?location=7.3
  18. He was also wrong and shouldn't have been giving you false information. The flag of the nation is known as the union jack, as laid down in parliament in 1902. Relatively new misconception as diver states, possibly because it is derived from the term jack used on ships, but it's one of them misconceptions that people use to appear smarter than the average bear when infact they are wrong or have been given false information. as for the hanging upside down bit, the one in the local is upside down, and thats run by an ex services guy, so local shops etc have no chance if he can't get it right.
  19. aye watford junction (i think) not watford gap. got that in my head today.
  20. you can remove a wasps nest but have to re locate a bees nest. Whichever one it is, i'd advise you contact the council and they'll sort it. If they dont, drop me a pm and I'll put you in touch with someone round the corner from you who will sort it . it'll probably be him the council send anyway.
  21. after the play off v watford in 99, ended up in Harrow A&E with a mate so was not able to return on the special we came down on. got two tubes to Watford gap, train from Watford to piccadilly, train from piccadilly to Bolton and didn't pay a penny, not because we were criminal geniuses or anything, just never got asked anywhere. Ironic thing is, after all that, the lad i was with, who was the reason i missed the special, kicked off with the taxi driver for charging ?3 from the station to Breightmet explaining to him that, in reality, we'd just got from London to Breightmet for ?1.50 each and to shut up, didn't compute with him
  22. used to be shit, really shit and skint every month, a lot of it was due to mounting charges due to being over over drawn etc, so starting the month off with less but still needing to spend the same and it was a snowball effect that got worse each month. the solution was so simple, i dont know hwy i didnt do it years ago, but i was one of them that went and crossed his fingers at the cash machine and hoped for the best, had head in the sand syndrome for a while, but, all i did, was go into the bank, set up another account with no bank card facility.changed the details at work etc and the wages were paid into this account. worked out what was spare for the month and transferred this amount by direct debit into the account with the bank card, less 50 quid, so, what ever was in that account i could spend, and once it was gone it was gone, but, more importantly, all the bills would be paid and wouldnt get any charges for over drawn or failed transactions. I started off without much being transferred in as i had debts to clear from previous un paid direct debits etc, but increased the amount going in to the "spending account" steadily each month, and after 12 months, as it took that long, I now have a nice sum that i can spend, which is easier to work out weekly etc, and safe in the knowledge there's money in the other that cant be got at that will cover all the bills. The extra 50 i leave in covers any little extra rises in things and i review it everyso often to see if i need to change anything. It's basic common sense but it took me ages to get round to having sense with money. i havent yet got round to thinking alcohol is a waste of money mind, and to be honest I hope i never do,
  23. so did I , you must have been the person who kept saying, no, i insist, after you at the gangway
  24. think, another "interesting" fact about that game, we were the last fans to stand on that terrace behind the goal before they made it into seats.
  25. feel for the driver too, irrespective of who was at fault, he will probably re live that every time he closes his eyes at night.
