You must be joking - the Yanks (excluding North East Coast i.e. New York area) cannot stand us and think most of us are pompous barstards who live in castles with moats and all speak the queens english. Although, I must admit, yanks are very easy at winding up! Love the fact they think they can use the Dollar in both Euro-zone and in the UK!!! Can you imagine if we try the same in the States? ::lol:: I am a euro-ite and believe in the future of the EU as a super-power (once it becomes more democratic than it is at moment) so really do not want to get into politics. Except this one question I will ask only ever once... would you rather be part of the US (which is struggling financially like the UK) as the 51st state or be part of a community where the similarties are more apparent than between ourselves and the US - its one or the other as the UK is as dead as a dodo (we are bankrupt and need to be part of a larger body - many reasons why and not just front office risk-taking bankers)?

Pedantically speaking we are no longer an island due to the Channel Tunnel. But on the other side I can see your point, but teh UK will always have it worse than many countries in the EU because we are an isalnd. Basically people can be smuggled into the UK on part part of our coastline (just like pirates used to do with the rich gains) whereas most other countries in the EU and elsewhere are at least landlocked or one ore more sides of their country (for instance Holland is land-locked on 3 sides) To answer your question for many "illegals" it is only 1 country because they hide away on ships that go to the Morrocco et al

Most end up on ships that go to North Africa - countries such as Morrocco - then then get smuggled through the straits to Spain and then from there a free for all. About 20% of them only end up in the camps off Calais - the rest are hiding/living out in the other EU countries. In Holland the problem is just as bad as it is in the UK - but the difference being the authorities, and regulations, are tougher Other "illegals" use various trucks to get through the many countries to the EU. Many see not only the UK, but the EU as a soft touch - its only when they get inside the EU they realise that teh UK is a soft touch as many other EU countries have much tougher border controls than the UK! edit was a spelling mistake which I missed!

Was just going through the thread reading the posts and had in my mind what I wanted to write, but Sluffy has beaten me to it and worded much better than what I would have done. My thoughts exactly mate :-)

He is actually a canny loan signing. Much better than the other two main loan strikers over last couple of years. He has the build, the strength and most of all the ambition - just as long as he stays fit (and he should be considering he has had all summer and more). Just as long as he is used wisely (and hopefully a better candidate for starting line-up than Elmander, who could be used as a timley substitute to get his confidence up more than at present) instead of being a bench warmer. This could be the kick-start we need for the this season
