It's true isn't it; when the Paddock was packed against Leeds or Wolves or someone late 70s you could tell summat was about to happen but it never did until the obligatory coffee had been lobbed. It was like the lights going out at the start of a GrandPrix or the gun at the start of a 100m sprint. There'd be a little pause and then all hell let loose. Perhaps we could get that red ginger to build a pointy statue like the one by Citeh's ground; put it on the site of the Paddock and call it "the c of the coffee".
Everyone who remembers the Paddock, specially from the old days do this now. Deep breath, sit back, close yer eyes and just picture yourself going up the slope from under the stand to the terrace. Couldnt see owt until you got near the top but you hear the crowd and smell the ciggy smoke....
I've got pictures from the Charlton game though unfortunately me very last ever one was fucked up - I tried for one last piccie of the full length of the emptying terrace - but I'd been supping all day and wasn't quite with it and so had me camera back to front and me final majestic picture of the Paddock turned out to be a close up of me gut. #-o
Still I managed to hang back and be in the last dozen corralled in the corner by the Lever End before we had to bow to the inevitable.
It was a shit-heap, but a ragging brilliant one.
