Would describe 6 as a standard midfielder, rather than defensive.

Sheffield Wednesday (H) - League Cup Round 1
I think it does explain the no Broome. As I speculated on another thread, Krusty came straight in because we couldn’t risk Broome getting an injury (or suspension).

Not sure I agree with all of that. One decent cross aside, I thought Cogley was awful tonight. Wednesday’s makeshift wide men just ghosted past him on both sides, which happened for all three goals and the Inwood red card. He isn’t a good defender. Wing back seems to be his best position and we don’t use them anymore. While I agree Lawrence isn’t ready (and a loan may be beneficial), I saw quite a few promising moments from Warren. I also think he was affected by the broken wrist. Whether it was the heavy strapping or an effort to protect it, he did seem a little awkward at times. I’d keep him in the U21s in case he’s needed and have another look in EFL games.

Keeper signed in a hurry and immediately starts, with the existing 2nd string still on the bench. Said new keeper looks like a complete novice, and totally out of his depth at this level. I don’t want to worry people but I can only think of one logical reason for this strange sequence of events: TSL is injured or ill, unlikely to play on Saturday, and we wanted to ensure Broom is available.

Tonight we’ll be having a good look at Warren in his correct position. Might be bye CMG after that!

Only the East stand. Will change if there’s a late rush of tickets, but I can’t see it.

Or, despite envious glances up the M61 and M55 from those “in the know”, Blackpool have spunked a fortune on a poor squad. I really don’t worry about other teams. At this level, we shouldn’t be concerned about anyone.

Given the type of striker we want - tall, strong, hold-up player, who’s good in the air - I think one of our centre backs would do a better 9 job than Dan!

A View From The Other Side
They didn’t. Separate vegetables. Carrots and turnips with a roast dinner are excellent. Carrots and swedes aren’t!

I feel a bit sorry for Schon. We clearly signed a winger, who was being asked to play as a wing back; his highlight reel only showed him in forward positions, crossing or shooting. His first few games he was defensively naive and very poor, but going forward he looked very good. Evatt then drummed the defensive side and retention of possession into him, to such an extent that it neutralised his attacking intent. Evatt leaves and Schumacher wants out and out wingers, with full backs supporting them and looking after the defensive side! In my opinion, Evatt and his process ruined him. I wonder how things would have turned out, if he was just joining now, as a winger. As it is, with recognition of his effort and likeability, moving on is the right thing for everyone.

EFL Highlights
It’s on Sundays now. Look for tonight’s episode. And it’s expanded to 30 minutes.

Plymouth Argyle (H)
In the 9 role, so is McAtee! In horse racing parlance, McAtee is exposed, whereas Lawrence is unexposed. We’re only looking at 2 or 3 matches, while efforts are made to recruit and get Dalby fit. Nothing ventured …

Great result and performance yesterday. Credit to many of the players has already been given. But my biggest credit is to Schumacher, who shuffled the team perfectly. I hoped for Johnston for Forino, Gale for CMG and Randall for McAtee. I’ve been waiting for Cogley to be replaced, but never thought Tutu was the (short-term?) answer. I was disappointed to see Morley dropped, but Sheehan was very good. My only gripe is this perseverance with McAtee as the replacement for Burstow. While we’re actively looking for an alternative, I can’t see how Lawrence would be less effective as a short-term alternative, and he might just surprise us. One final point, and I might be on my own here. I thought Plymouth were superior to Stockport. A combination of us improving, and not being subject to the bad fortune and referring we experienced at Stockport, made the difference in results. Plymouth will be up there, at the end of the season.

Would you say “Oasis is on tour” or “Oasis are on tour”? Oasis are a band. Now, “Dua Lipa is on tour” or “Dua Lipa are on tour”? Dua Lipa is a singer. Hopefully, this makes it clear. 😀

Can I acquaint you with the law of sod? 😀 We’ve been here before, with keepers. We don’t know what SS is thinking. He might have Forrester primed as cover, when fit; or one of the youngsters. Right now, though, it’s a risk.

And right back! Tutu is never a defender, while he’s got a hole in his arse.

Schumacher seems to be recruiting (at least) two people for each position (apart from right back). I’d be surprised and disappointed if any squad member was considered no.1 choice for any position (goalkeeper the possible exception). That would be rank bad management.

I would also prefer a specialist right back. However, fitness aside, if Cogley was unavailable: Forrester or Tutu?

And that’s a very important point, which is disgraceful on the part of the owner. My post related to the players alone. And continued late (not-non) payment is usually sufficient to allow a player to tear up their contract.

Sheffield Wednesday (H) - League Cup Round 1
As I’ve read it, the players are being paid; albeit late. I’ve not seen anything that says someone is owed wages. They are on the brink, but they haven’t yet tipped into the crisis situation we were in during 2019.

I’ve still to see Inwood do anything wrong, yet no one mentions him. Let’s test our full squad out, if we’re still making the same mistakes.

Formation/tactics
Nor do I want him to. He’s as tough as either of the new boys, has good distribution and is the only player who can deliver a decent set piece. Don’t understand why some want him out. Then again, unlike others, I don’t rate Cogley. It’s all about opinions, which is why we’re all here!
