On the basis of £30 per matchday ticket, you move into profit after 8 games. £150 + (8 x £10) = £230. 8 x £30 = £240

The 9 will not manage 90 minutes every game. If they do, they’re not putting in the required shift. 2 x 9s will both get plenty of time on the pitch, with no injuries. The 10 role might be Warren’s long-term role?

Injuries
I still think a right back is a bigger priority than a left back. At right back, there is no cover for Cogley. At left back, Taylor is only out for “3 or 4 weeks”, when the season doesn’t start for a fortnight!

Is there a link, please?

Looking likely, now. With Dalby injured (and hamstrings notoriously recurring) we definitely need someone else. Just hope it’s a sensible contract.

Is this the conclusion without Dion Charles (45 goals in 122 games: 1 every 2.7 and much better) and Aaron Collins (20 goals in 64 games: an identical rate)? For neither of the above did I gerrymander the numbers to make a (poor) point. If we’re looking to improve, he ain’t the man for me.

We’ve sold and released a few players who finished outside the playoffs in League One, and have bottled nearly all big games (Wembley was an exception) over the last two seasons. In the course of this, we have raised north of £2 million (probably) in transfer fees and cut more than £1 million per year from the wage bill. The rebuild is underway.

Why? Leave the place vacant, until we need it.

I think there’s a player here, but he’s never played in his correct position. As an attacking winger, he was asked to play wing back. Not suitable. Now we’ve switched to wingers, but he still seems to be struggling because we’re using inverted wingers. When I watched his highlights reel, as he signed, he always seemed to attacking down the left. I fear that he may not be as effective on the right, where he’s expected to play. On the question of CMG, I thought Schon was much better on the right than CMG was on the left, against Barrow. I didn’t see the Hibs game, so can’t comment on that. Regarding CMG’s supposed versatility for various roles, this doesn’t sit well with me. I prefer specialists over jacks of all trades.

SS defines what he wants, recruitment identify who. Same as any business.

So, we need one striker; we already have the other. And we need a right back. We have Cogley, who’s injury record is excellent. However, if we go into the season with just Cogley, Sod’s Law says he’ll pick something up!

Recognising that things were what they were in the past, but accepting have now things have moved on and we must deal with things as they are. Sounds almost like the polar opposite of a trade union leader to me!

Jack Iredale is doing very well, as we may see tomorrow. Another poor decision by Evatt!

England Women’s Football
As others have said, Wimbledon is a joint tournament, so it’s subjective to disaggregate the separate values; don’t forget media rights, which bring in far more revenue than bums on seats. Outside of the majors, aside from a very small number of other tournaments, the men and women have separate tours (ATP and WTA) and tournaments. As such, prize is not aligned but based on income generated. However, the women still earn a lot because ladies tennis is very popular. Whether other women’s sport is as popular and, consequently, rewarding is up for debate. I think ladies golf pays well but is, again, lower than the men. However, they do generate their own income.

Where’s the right back? We can’t go into the season with only Cogley and Desmond.

On the heading point, I now think we need a second 9. I was happy to let Abimbola and Warren (as something different) act as backups, but hamstrings are usually a recurring problem, once they arise. Despite the club playing down Dalby’s injury, we definitely need a fully fit experienced 9.

Post of the day @frank_spencer Very happy with our business to date. We’ve signed a number of less-established youngsters (and have a few of our own) who could be anything. Charlie Warren looks and sounds very promising. We spent a fortune on “names” last summer, and look what happened.

The club won’t have Charles back, so kind of irrelevant. However, to answer your question, no I wouldn’t. His lack of confidence and composure in front of goal was evident 18 months before we managed to offload him to Huddersfield. His form in 6 months since then, has indicated nothing has changed.
