Believe me, although i love life in Spain its anything but a low tax zone.

I know that… that’s why I’m looking at tax residency in Cyprus and using Spain property as bolt hole for 4-5 months pwr year. All my planning is to exit this goddam island and paying as little tax as possible.

I think when you've worked hard all your life and paid through the nose for everything, i think your entitled to look for a better life. Honestly its not difficult to find something better.

I'm only taking the piss.
I'm off as soon as my elderly mother-in-law passes.

Wev'e lived here for 7 years and since we left year on year the UK has  regressed every year. Tax is higher than the UK but depends on your income what % you pay. But generally although things have increased in price its still much cheaper than the UK. For eg, Our council tax is below 300€ per year. Services are obviously dependant on usage but are cheaper than the UK., as is food and drink.

Any advice on areas to retire to that are low or zero tax, I am looking at Cyprus as a low tax area and interested to know of any folk who’ve baled out of UK and how it’s going or any advice.

Follow the rest of the 'patriots' and move to a zero-tax Islamic nation.

Have been…. What a fool I was.

No doubt you'll be back here for the inevitable eye, knee, hip and heart operations when the time comes, pumping the system for more than any immigrant ever has.

If you follow the correct legal procedure and meet the right critera, you get free health care in Spain.

It's not 'free' though is it? Paid for by people who pay tax.

Hardly being a "clever dick". Have you missed the point of the thread? I admire you for paying your way. Mounts wants to move somewhere that enables him to pay ZERO tax, and I'm insinuating that he will continue to use the health service in the UK that is paid for by tax payers. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll pay through the teeth for private healthcare wherever he moves to, but I suspect not.

Before the inevitable "I've paid in all my working life, so I can use the NHS whenever and however I want, even though I choose not to contribute any more" - it's a bit like saying "I've paid my car insurance for the last 20 years and not had an accident, so I shouldn't have to insure my car for the next 20 years".

I said "a bit like", not "exactly the same". Do you think if you've paid in for 40 years but never needed any medical attention, you should get your money back?

Fuck me Cheese can the lad not enjoy his retirement in peace 😄

I’ve not retired yet… still paying 40% paye… fucking stupid I know… should have gone self employed and dodged like fuck….ive paid 40% for over 20 years… If I stay here they’ll give me 12750 tax free and tax everything else at 20% you can’t live on that so your in effect giving them back the half the tax you claimed while building up your pension. Oh and inheritance tax will be paid on my pension pots after 75 when I die meaning my wife who’s got only small pension will suffer after I’ve passed away…. It’s corrupt system, I’ll also add public service sector bods can retire at mid 50s and will receive a defined benefit pension running into 100s of thousand pounds from the state while folk like me have to wait until 67… is it any wonder I’m looking to preserve my hard earned money for my family and away from the government tax vultures.

You forget I’ve paid in for 45 years… they’ve paid fuck all.

BINGO! So predictable (and I haven't forgot, as you'll see above).

You'd paid fuck all when you entered the system 45 years ago.
