April 12Apr 12 I’m so naive; wish I had your foresight. I pay into a (apparently) decent pension. That coupled with my benefits keeps me in place. However, I do intend to work abroad and probably retire in either Spain or Portugal… I’m banking on being 100% debt free by 50, use my generous holiday allowance to work some shitty TUI job for six months in year one, then gradually reduce it down, find somewhere and settle. I could technically work remotely, but my employer won’t allow it… is it not as simple as that? I’m not prepared to go it alone as a coach, risk and reward isn’t worth it

April 12Apr 12 Nothing wrong with having a financial plan but think about all the time you will suddenly have... that's the bit I find difficult, I'm avoiding boredom and lack of direction because I know that will be the end for me... there are very few retirees I actually like to hang out with

I look forward to the day I have the time to figure out what I do to fill my day.
April 12Apr 12 My mates Dad lives in Cyprus. Met him for a few beers last summer. I'd live there in a heartbeat. I can gladly find any information out for you off him you may need mate. My biggest advice to my two boys currently is to get the hell out of the UK and find a better way of life as soon as they can.

Oh and inheritance tax will be paid on my pension pots after 75 when I die meaning my wife who’s got only small pension will suffer after I’ve passed away…. It’s corrupt system, I’ll also add public service sector bods can retire at mid 50s and will receive a defined benefit pension running into 100s of thousand pounds from the state while folk like me have to wait until 67… is it any wonder I’m looking to preserve my hard earned money for my family and away from the government tax vultures. Good luck to you mate. Which ever way you go. Us public service bots definitely won’t be retiring at mid 50s 😄 not sure where you got that from. Climate change inaction will have turned the world into a bit of a mess come my retirement.. so I’ve decided to live in the moment & gone part time. More time with the boy & opportunities for long weekends away. I’ll be a happy man if I can retire in the Scottish highlands & get out for plenty of walks & cycles. I find Europe ridiculously too hot in the summer these days. And it’s only getting worse with the droughts. I can see the appeal though

Agree on the weather and I’d look to go somewhere cooler July- August, just hope I can make the financials stack up to get out of the UK. Edited April 12Apr 12 by Mounts Kipper

The bitterness and jealousy is oozing out of you tonight. It must be soul destroying seeing all these “Old duffers” travelling the world and living the good life whilst you're sat home alone giving it big licks on a footy forum. Poor lad

No vineyard but plenty of great pubs. Not boasting, just giving encouragement to anyone who works hard and does the right thing then retirement can be great. That’s if you make it this far. I know many who didn’t.

Every morning is a privilege, I often think about the ones who haven't got as far down the path as me, all good pals. Don't spend too much time planning, I've seen a few going into it to the n'th degree with spreadsheets and financial tax consulltants, they then park their big motorhome on the drive and roll over and die... I suppose the dream kept them going without thinking about what happens next.

Was in response to me that bud, in terms of my investment; not sure of what I all now is relevant but- I should have 200k asset in 3 years, 10 years decent pension at lower rate, 0 debt. I’ve got 10 years to achieve a dream of working abroad- @BobyBrno lad did it near 30 years ago… I’m doing it wrong way around, but hope to make it for life. Do I sell the gaff or rent it? Do I invest in further properties when I really can’t be arsed being here? I intend to allow kids to play football and have fun; so many questions
