Thursday at 09:171 day Overlooking totty for a moment, this game comes down to a simple basic. How much ball possession will Argentina manage to gain and, if they get hold of it, how long will they retain it. Anticipating some Argie dark arts again and a bit of a card fest.

Thursday at 14:571 day Last night was obviously a big disappointment but also a proper reminder of what a dislikeable shower the Argies are. Come on Spain.

Come on Spain.Their levels of shithousery are off the scale. I quite like it when it isn't against us. I'll rephrase that. Not necessarily 'like' but find it a compelling watch.Having a Simeone on the field says everything. I can see a potential card fest coming.
Thursday at 15:251 day If true, and it's from Perplexity so it may not be, then it's a bit of a surprise, you'd have thought they would have met more than the onceIn World Cup history, Spain and Argentina have met only once, with Argentina winning 2-1 in 1966. So while the overall rivalry is balanced, there is very little direct World Cup knockout history between them

So while the overall rivalry is balanced, there is very little direct World Cup knockout history between themFor a number of years, the two countries played an annual match for the Copa Hispanidad.Obviously huge links between the two. Loads of Argies around here.As you say, 'a bit of a surprise' they haven't met in WC Finals. A bit like Messi never having faced England before last night.

I have seen Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay play the same way. Paraguay just the other week against France! My favourite example of Uruguayan shit-housing came in 1986 when they had a man sent off in the first minute against the Jocks but scrapped, kicked and pulled their way to a 0-0 that meant the Jocks departed in the group stage. Again.

Thursday at 21:491 day I want Spain to win it now. I really hope they do. I suspect that they won’t. Will watch it hoping it’s a World Cup Final version of The Battle of Burnden
Thursday at 23:141 day With Messi anything can happen, but lets look past the group stages, they scraped past Cape Verde, should have lost vs Egypt, may have lost to Switzerland if that idiot didn't dive and get himself sent off and should have lost to England or should I say were given the win on a plate. If Spain are at it and take a lead, they won't be cowards, they'll keep it and keep playing their way.2-0 Spain and yes Spain haven't been at their supreme best either, but 1 goal conceded when you're star players in WIlliams and Yamal came into the tournament off the back off injuries and without being amazing is quite something, they are a great side, which we'll never get to with sabotage cowardly decisions.

Check out their group stage results in Qatar. Check out ours in 1966. Check out West Germanys in 1974. Check out Spains during this World Cup - folk were writing them off after the Cape Verde result.Spain have been brilliant. They may well win the World Cup again. I will be very surprised if they manage a clean sheet in this final. I won't be surprised if Argentina overcome another seemingly insurmountable hurdle - possibly by cynical disruption and deception tactics.Like most I hope Spain win it as they play superb football. I'll be celebrating with the locals if they do. I just have this nagging feeling that Argentina will do what they most often do. Find a way to win.
14 hours ago14 hr Can we give the final a British flavour? - and pretend it's actually Northern Gibraltar v West Falklands 🙂

I'd expect Spain to be upwards of 60% possession, with Argentina disrupting and fouling from the off. If Spain can cope with that, they'll be fine, but I'd imagine Argentina will be targeting a hothead like Cucurella from the start, and looking to get him riled up. As we've seen, even the slightest lapse of concentration, when you have Messi and Alvarez, and they'll happily punish you.If Spain don't allow themselves to get dragged into the game Argentina want to play, they'll be OKI might look at, although I bet the odds are shit, a double on yellow cards for Simeone and Cucurella Edited 9 hours ago9 hr by Sweep
