if we get the money or can get 11 players that are better than the current squad to add to those who i have mentioned above then maybe, just maybe europe would be a good idea.

did Ipswich really struggle? or where they mis-managed? i doubt that Ipswich had 76 back-room staff watching over the fitness of all their players like ours do.

we are a club on the up. no point being defeatist before we have even got their. 80% of entrants in the UEFA Cup are no better than us. This "Europe" tag is a well worn excuse. 60% of the teams are from backwater leagues that would do well to finish mid-table in our "Championship". 20% are on a level footing with us. That just leaves 20% who are decent "richer" clubs that have fallen by the way-side and failed to reach the Champions League. Chances are we won't meet any of these teams until the group stage. At which point - you get 2 home games and 2 away. Its pot luck from there on. A big partizan crowd at the Reebok and we can beat anyone on our day - Arsenal & Liverpool can vouch for that.

Boro and Newcastle have strolled through the first phases so far.

I'd fances our chances of going quite far. But let's be real. Qualification and a few away trips is all we ask and all we expect. Winning it is not on the agenda.

Are we good enough for what? Good enough to win it? then no. Good enough to make it a stage or two? Depends if we get AC Milan or AC Delco in the prelims.

Europe will be a fantastic acheivement for the club but i would expect it to be treated like the FA Cup with a weakened team being played. Premier League survival will always be top of the agenda.

I'm sorry, but I consider the lack of funds for football talent to be more indicative of the ambition of the board! I also consider that Sam Alardyce may just be banging his head against the wall by keep going cap in hand to the board asking for cash for new players and being told to sling his hook!

I love Bolton Wanderers for what I see on the pitch. I don't give a flying fukc about the amount of real estate owned by the board of directors!

I think it's a bit harsh to imply that Ricky Gardner at Left back isn't good enough. The lad is getting better and better each week - and if Franck Quedrue for Middlesbrough is good enough, then so is Gardner in my opinion

Every manager bleats about the lack of money they have, Sam is not alone in that respect.

 

Signing Youri, then Okocha, then Campo was ambitious IMO and I assume those players feel the same or wouldn't have come in the first place?

 

Even if the board freed up more cash we'd still be relative paupers in comparison to the teams currently above / around us. Can't see it'd make a huge difference overall.

My point was not that you were looking to the amount of real estate being a measure of success it was pointing to the board. Every time you hear a quote from them in the BEN they seem to dwell on the successes of 'other' non-football related ventures and, moreso, the amount of corporate things they do as a sign that the club is onward and upward! I'm also not saying the club isn't on an upward spiral, I'm pointing out that the 'non-football- stuff doesn't interest us, the supporters. I would hazard a guess that ALL of us using this forum are the fans who help create an atmosphere, NOT the ones sat in a warm room behind a glass screen in just their shirt sleeves!

I think we're at crossed purposes here. I don't say we not successful, I say we shouldn't measure success on what goes on away from the football side.

For example: The Reebok was built to a capacity of 30,000. We currently have seating for about 28,000. The rows in the lower stands start at row C which means another 3 rows at about 1000 seats per. row could be added yet the board won't go there yet. I was asking what the board view as success. As you say, 5 years in the prem is a success so why are they not adding the extra seats?

THAT would be viewed, by many, as a sign of the success we are having on the pitch, not the darts, Elton John, etc.

I believe that the extra seats are not added, as the income that the extra 3000 seats would generate is less than the income that the advertising boards currently bring in. It's wrong, but it's as simple as that. Plus as we don't sell out every game, whats the point
