Wednesday are chasing Bolton midfielder Joey O'Brien and sources close to the club believe a deal will secured soon.

 

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 star spend three months at Hillsborough last season and became an instant crowd favourite.

 

O'Brien is highly-rated by Trotters boss Sam Allardyce but is not part of his plans at the Reebok Stadium and will cost a nominal fee to bring him across the Pennines.

 

He captained his last game at Wednesday, the 3-3 draw at Bolton - a thank you gesture by Paul Sturrock for his contribution to the club's great form during his spell.

 

It is still unclear whether The Owls' move for O'Brien will be a season-long loan switch or a permanent transfer.

Not seen too much of him but if the reports are anything to go by he should remain attached to Bolton.

What would be the point of selling him and then wishing we hadn't later in the season when the transfer window has shut and we suddenly find ourselves short of players due to the amount of games we'll end up playing.

We need to increase the squad size not decrease it!

think we should keep him for a bit of pre season so we can take a better look see if he can make the step up this season if not send him on a years loan
