February 9, 200620 yr anyone have Ron Greenwood? http://www.englandfootballonline.com/TeamB...s/ThisTime.html
February 9, 200620 yr Author anyone find the MP3 of this somewhere - it was a classic and far better than New Order's effort in 1990.
February 9, 200620 yr sad as it is, its a nice coincidence that as ron greenwood dies, the fa are sitting down to to decide which media lovey, mealy mouthed not very succesful club manager they should appoint to the position of national boss
February 9, 200620 yr Dear old Ron, always came across as being one of football's good guys. Took West Ham to cup glory in '64 then the Cup Winners Cup the following year and the year after that three members of that West Ham team - Moore, Hurst and Peters - were pivotal in England's '66 World Cup-winning team. The England team he managed at the 1982 World Cup might have gone further had the goals not dried up in the second group phase. A sad loss.

February 9, 200620 yr world in motion was the first sign of football going 'mainstream' it has a lot to answer for, they sneaked it in, the world cup happened, england were better than in previous tournaments. all of a sudden being a 'fan' was n't a bad thing, it felt good, slowly it dawned that they did nt want to join in, they wanted to take over, next thing you know 'it's coming home'......and again...... italia 90 was last 'proper' world cup. it'll never be that good again. usa in 94 ? shite france 98 ? shite japs/koreans 02 ? shite germany 06 ? will be shite.

I'd argue with USA 94, it lacked England, but was perhaps still hanging on as an authentic, exotic, quality world cup for me. Argentina / Romania was up there with the very best 30 mins of football I've ever seen. Rest is absolutely right though, I wonder how many 'football fans' had never cared 2 hoots for football until the Cameroon 1/4 final and then Gazza's tears in the semi? A hell of a lot I'd guess.
February 9, 200620 yr Argentina / Romania was up there with the very best 30 mins of football I've ever seen Good call. Watched that in a bar in Cyprus. Everybody watching was gobsmacked about it. And the Argies lost.
February 9, 200620 yr Author Argentina / Romania was up there with the very best 30 mins of football I've ever seen Good call. Watched that in a bar in Cyprus. Everybody watching was gobsmacked about it. And the Argies lost. There were some great games in USA 94, and we had the chance to support OUR MAN Jason McAteer, be it in an Ireland shirt. However, Ian is very much right - Italia 90 was the last of the great World Cups. But I still think '82 was tops - and with it had the greatest England song of all!
