March 8, 200620 yr Prepare for another rise in Council Tax then. I love England, but it's expensive. I only buy weed so I don't have to pay Blair & his cronies tax And is it true that you lose 25% of your will to an 'inheritance tax'? If so, you're dead and they're still taking your money. PB

March 8, 200620 yr Author Look on the bright side if it was dollars it'd be 1,000 million (is that a zillion ) a trillion, but the yanks count a different numbers of zeros to us, depending to the context or sommit... Short scale usageIn the short scale used in Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Puerto Rico, Peru and most English-speaking countries, a trillion is 1012 or 1 000 000 000 000 (a one followed by twelve zeros). It is therefore one thousand billions (short scale usage) or one million million or (1 million)2 or one thousandth of a quadrillion (short scale usage). The SI prefix for this number is tera. Long scale usage In the long scale used in other countries and languages, a trillion (or its translated equivalent) is 1018 or 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 (a one followed by eighteen zeros), a million billions (long scale usage). It is one million million million or (1 million)3 or one millionth of a quadrillion (long scale usage). The SI prefix for this number is exa. headfcuk!

March 8, 200620 yr the nhs forks out hand over fist for healthcare for people who are not paying into national insurance. also a high rate of pensioners needing care, people living longer, more diseases are treatable which means continued and prolonged care as opposed to death. also too many fat cats/pen pushers/outside consultants/staff through agencies etc. not to mention all those wierd and wonderful statues/sculptures they put in the entrance of hospitals ( like the patients on the wards can really see those ) Im pissed at the nhs. i cant get an nhs dentist, and therefore pay private, i pay for my prescriptions etc. i also pay for eyetests etc. when i needed physio a couple of months ago i was told i would have to wait minimum 8 weeks. so i ended up paying privately for that too. i pay privatly for my kids too. the only thing we dont pay for is seeing the doctor- which is every blue moon. id rather pay per visit to the doctor than pay national insurance every month. Personally i think we should be given the option to opt out of paying national insurance to channel it into our private pensions and healthcare schemes. at the moment im paying into all 3, i dont see that im getting anything out of my national insurance, and i certainly wont when im older, because there will be no pension fund, and the next generation are workshy and wont be paying to keep me while im old. besides, when i am old, ill be forced to sell my house to pay for care anyway, whats the bleedin point eh??
March 8, 200620 yr is over ??650 BILLION! discuss... Surely a mistake? Thats about half the GDP of the UK.

PB First 250 k or so goes where you want it, government get 40% of what left. Robbing gits. Fine in my book. If you've got more than ??250k to pass on you should be grateful for leading a priveleged life I say. Millions upon millions never have anywhere near that amount to their name, so don't whinge about the tax. Not aimed at you Mick by the way, just my feelings on the matter.
March 8, 200620 yr is over ??650 BILLION! discuss... Have you got a cold. "They've poured money into the NHS but there's an ??800 million deficit and the outgoing chief executive said things are getting worse not better," he said. Less than a Millenium dome - and if this overspend has reduced the waiting lists significantly, then good.

Well I made that point badly! Clearly loads of ordinary people will have ??250k houses now, so me saying they were priveleged is well wide of the mark (having said that they will pay nowt in tax anyway). I just think if you are in a position to leave / inherit ??300k, griping about giving ??20k in tax is a bit rich...is what I'm trying to say.
March 8, 200620 yr and i wouldn't disagree with you, if all around other folk were paying their dues and not constantly sticking their snouts into troughs that they have no intention of ever filling up that's MY gripe grandma went a bit doo lally (oops, how pc isn't that) towards the end of her days, and all thats she had was used to pay for her care in a state run residential home others got it for nowt is that fair some will think so, just that i don't
March 8, 200620 yr IHT is a bag of shite. Anyone who thinks that people who have amassed over ??275k should pay 40% tax on the rest should go & live in a communist state & enjoy the true re distribution of wealth. 1. If you're going to have it, make the limit higher so it doesn't affect ordinary homeowners - particularly in the south. 2. The only people who pay it are those who either don't know how to get around it or those who are ignorant to it. 3. It's completely avoidable to anybody with access to financial advice. i.e. Mainly the more affluent people it's meant to target. By the way, income tax was only started in this country to fund the Napoleonic wars. Somebody needs to tell Tony Blair they've finished!

March 9, 200620 yr You agree that the government should tax the money you leave in your will? So, a bloke who works twice as hard as another bloke should be taxed because of it? F*ck that, nothing is for free & if you're always skint - tough shit, work/study harder and get a better job. BTW, I'm working class and have never had money. PB

PB Yep, I think they should, after a certain amount. Doing well for yourself is not always about working twice as hard, the circumstances of your upbringing are a massive factor, and plain old luck is important too.

March 9, 200620 yr I pay 40% ragging income tax - now that is bulls bags! That is the most surprising thing i have ever read on here. You come across as a mongalong on benefit.
March 9, 200620 yr I pay 40% ragging income tax - now that is bulls bags! No you don't. The excess above ??37,000 (or whatever) yes.
March 9, 200620 yr I didn't imply that it wasn't an incremental tax. Still ragging scandalous. Hardly encourages people to strive for more money does it - it's a big jump from 22.5% to 40%!!! When the high earners bracket was brought in it accounted for approximately 8% of the working population. It now captures almost 22%. Thieving Exchequer bastard.
is over ??650 BILLION!

edit: i mean MILLION, doh!
