In proportion ??7m is possibly 90% of the transfer budget, so it doesn't seem daft to say it is too much when there are other areas that need strengthening.

Without knowing what the budget is, how can we make such assumptions? The budget, in theory, could be as high as ??15M, therefore making it less than 50% which would be OK.............wouldn't it.

 

It seems to me that Gartside can't win:

 

a) He never spends any money on decent players................

Would we rather that he split the difference, and we spend ??2M on David Connolly or Kanu ?

In the News of the World today they have said that Arsenal are now after Andy Johnson. If it's true (which it probably is'nt because it's the News of the World) then even if our bid was real, we've got no chance.

The 25-year-old is due to hold talks with Crystal Palace officials when he will inform chairman Simon Jordan of his desire to leave the club following their failure to secure promotion to the Premiership.

 

And Goodison remains his preferred destination, despite Bolton Wanderers lodging an ??8million bid for the striker over the weekend.

 

Sam Allardyce has made the improved offer after it emerged Everton, Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth were willing to match Bolton's opening gambit of ??7m.

the good thing about the johnson situation is Bolton will definitely not buy him, he will end up at goodison using Moyes entire budget leaving us to sign some far better players for a lot less money, every ones a winner. :D/ :D/ :D/
