When the really big clubs start bidding for a player the whole process changes.

 

The top clubs know that the player will want to play for them so much that even a conservative bid will be accepted by the club because they know that the player will just reject any smaller teams that he doesn't want to play for. That's what's happened here. Johnson never attracted the very top clubs but he is at the very high end for the chasing pack hence the bidding war with us, Everton and Wigan.

 

Eidur vs AJ is no contest but the respective clubs that were in for the 2 is a no contest aswell.

 

Frankly there was never any chance that Eidur would've come back here as much as he does love the club. He's too good for us, sadly its as simple as that.

For the last 3 seasons we???ve had about 57p to spend on players and then all of a sudden the board sanction an ??8.5million bid for one player, and not even a proven Premiership player. Get real.

 

If Allardyce really had ??8.5 million I don???t believe for a minute he???d spend it on one player who doesn???t even fit into his hoof-n-hope way of playing football.

 

 

I'd say there's a possibility that the board, realising that they just nearly lost our all-time greatest manager to the England job, decided that the only way to keep him happy is to break the bank and invest a bit into the team. Sam has taken us from a team struggling in the second tier of English football to become a team consistantly in the top half of the Premier League. I can't really think of another gaffer who could have done that.

Gartside always stated that he budgets for 17th position. Our three consecutive higher positions have brought in significantly more than the ??8.5m he has to spend. As it was primarily the playing staff and astute team management that got the BWFC business this extra prize money why shouldn't they also reap the rewards?
